Ruckus and violinist Keir GoGwilt celebrate the legacy of Niel Gow (b. Perthshire, 1727-1807), one of Scotland’s most important musicians, in this dynamic folk-Baroque feast of Scottish dance music. Weaving together these jubilant, hard-driving and nostalgic tunes into large-scale dramatic forms, Ruckus and GoGwilt bring the 18th-century tradition of blending folk and art music to the present day.

The well-loved combination of violin and harp anchor our final Music & Meditation concert.  Following a short guided meditation, Principal harpist of the Dallas Symphony Emily Levin joins Met Opera violinist Julia Choi to create a textured soundscape ready for your open ears. Our Sunken Garden on a Saturday morning is the perfect spot to shake off the week and let music carry you into the weekend .

Violinist Njioma Grevious brings her "vibrant and compelling" artistry to the Music Room following her previous performances as a founding member of the Abeo Quartet (2023-24 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence).  She is a winner of both the Robert F. Smith First Prize and the Audience Choice Award at the 2023 Sphinx Competition and received a prestigious 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant. She has an active solo career and has made recent debuts with the Chicago and National Symphony Orchestras.

Based out of Williamsburg, VA, Hornsby first rose to national prominence with The Way It Is, his 1986 Grammy-winning debut album with The Range. The title track became the most-played song on American radio in 1987 while Tupac Shakur’s timeless song “Changes” builds on “The Way It Is” and set the stage for many subsequent versions of the track. In 1991 Hornsby collaborated with Bonnie Raitt, playing on her iconic hit “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Additionally, Hornsby was a part-time member of the Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992, performing over 100 concerts in America and Europe. The 13-time Grammy nominee has also solidified his status as a highly sought-after collaborator. Hornsby’s own 23 albums have sold over 11 million copies worldwide, and he has appeared on over 100 records including releases with Bob Dylan, Don Henley, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Nicks, Ricky Skaggs, Bob Seger, Chaka Khan, Bon Iver, Brandon Flowers, Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Mavis Staples, Willie Nelson and more. Performances will feature material from throughout Hornsby’s storied career, in addition to new music from his forthcoming album, Indigo Park, arriving April 3rd, 2026.

The Orchestra of St. Luke’s returns to close out the summer season led by the dynamic Xian Zhang. This program reunites the orchestra with world-renowned violinist Gil Shaham, a long-time Caramoor favorite whose numerous appearances here dates back to 1994. The afternoon features Shaham’s definitive interpretation of Barber’s Violin Concerto, a work of inherent sweetness and playfulness. Framed by the wit of Rossini’s L'italiana in Algeri Overture and the majestic architecture of Mozart’s ("Jupiter") Symphony, the concert offers a masterclass in both lyrical intimacy and orchestral grandeur.

The Terra String Quartet continues its residency with an exquisite program including madrigals by the late Renaissance Italian composer Maddalena Casulana, the first female composer to have her music published. Terra also pairs two monumental string quartets that draw from Renaissance influences and are characterized by their innovative structures, emotional depth, and the exploration of new musical ideas within the traditional quartet form.
