‘Here is enshrined the soul of …’ Elgar never revealed the inspiration behind his Violin Concerto, but the music tells its own story – a tale of whispered secrets and soaring romance that could have been written for the glorious sound of violinist Christian Tetzlaff.

Karina Canellakis Conducts Beethoven

Prepare yourself for vulgar, visceral and vampy renditions of the long lost ‘numbers’ that lurk in the depths of our minds – a seemingly never-ending revue of our pathetic existence, an infinite infernal cabaret of our own construction. The show must go on, no matter the cost.

It’s Got Legs!!!!!!!

Nobuyuki Tsujii, who has been blind from birth and relies on intense, incredibly detailed listening to work with an orchestra, performs Shostakovich’s upbeat Piano Concerto No.2.

Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2 with Nobuyuki Tsujii

Set inside a warped morning routine, breakfast becomes an epic struggle as tasks loop, snag and unravel, and the possibility of getting out of the house on time becomes ludicrously distant.

Tine Thing Helseth & Friends: The Boulangerie

Manfred Honeck & Emanuel Ax

After fleeing Hungary for the US during the Second World War, Bartók was in hospital – suffering from what would later be diagnosed as leukaemia – when Serge Koussevitzky visited him to offer a new commission.

Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra

Ein Heldenleben means ‘A Hero’s Life’, and Richard Strauss was definitely having a bit of a laugh at the expense of his critics when he painted this huge, absurdly entertaining self-portrait of the artist as superhero.

Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben

Big emotions. Big sound. Big talent. Huge orchestra. If you like your musical experiences super-sized, this is the concert for you.

Mahler 6 with Marin Alsop

Power and sex are a dangerous combination, and when the rulers of medieval England played the game of thrones, they either won or they died.
