Brahms Requiem

A requiem is a mass for the dead and with Latin texts, but Brahms, who was not a particularly devout Protestant, opted out of the Catholic requiem text in favor of a selection of German texts from Luther's Bible translation. The texts, which Brahms himself carefully selected, are intended for the living, for those who mourn need comfort and encouragement.
