“The Telephone” by Giancarlo Menotti (1911-2007) is an American mini-opera from 1947 for two singers and chamber ensemble (or piano). It's about Ben and Lucy. Lucy is preoccupied with the new phone, while Ben desperately tries to woo her. Ben is going on a trip very soon and therefore has to hurry to ask her.
