New Every Morning by the Royal Orchestral Society patron and former Master of the King’s Music, Dame Judith Weir opens the concert, followed by Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto no.1, written for Rostropovich and one of his most popular and approachable compositions. Brahms’ towering masterpiece – Symphony No 4 in E minor – completes the evening.
