Collister grew up on the Isle of Man, and her professional recording career began after she moved to the UK in the mid 1980s, when she came to national attention singing the theme for the BBC Television series The Life and Loves Of A She Devil. A period of great critical and commercial success when working with Clive Gregson was followed by a fruitful and enduring association with Richard Thompson.
