Gwyn Hall

Brangwyn Hall, a Grade II listed building in Swansea, South Wales, is renowned for its striking architecture and historic significance. Opened on October 23, 1934, as part of the Guildhall complex, it was constructed to address the accommodation issues of the former Guildhall at Somerset Place, now the Dylan Thomas Centre. The building was erected during a time of economic recession, providing much-needed employment and setting a precedent for municipal architecture with its innovative design. Clad in Portland Stone, the Guildhall features unique architectural elements, including a clock tower and bronze screens, and serves as a focal point for local government and cultural activities in Swansea. Brangwyn Hall is particularly famous for the Brangwyn panels, created by Sir Frank Brangwyn, which depict a vibrant and fantastical world. Originally commissioned for the House of Lords, these panels were acquired by Swansea after being deemed too colorful for their intended location. The hall also houses the Willis Organ, first played publicly in 1934, enhancing its reputation as a premier venue for concerts and events. Over the years, the Guildhall has undergone several modifications while maintaining its original character, becoming a cherished historical landmark in Swansea.
