Y Arts is coming to the Opera House with a community production of MY SON, PINOCCHIO! The cast of 42 actors is comprised of local youth and adults from the region. Join the Blue Fairy (Natalie Flagg), Stromboli (Alan Baldwin) and a lively cast of characters as Geppetto (Andrew Luke) learns the true meaning of family as he searches for his son, Pinocchio (Agatha Harris). The Boneheads

attended Boston College on a track scholarship and in the evenings became a fixture on the city’s open mic circuit. After winning a Boston Acoustic Underground songwriter competition, he caught the ear of folk luminary Bill Morrissey, who produced his indie album Say Something in 1993. This led to a seven album contract with Rounder Records and the 1994 album, Stories. Building Spectacular Gingerbread Houses Class

The Bennewitz Quartet is one of the top ensembles on the international chamber music scene. After winning two prestigious competitions – Osaka Chamber Music and Festa 2005 and Prémio Paolo Borciani, Italy 2008, they quickly gained the acclaim of the critics. In 2019 the Bennewitz Quartet won the Classic Prague Award for the Best Chamber Music Performance of the Year. In the 2023/24 season the Bennewitz Quartet returns to numerous stages in Europe (Stuttgart, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Linz, Bilbao) and will make its debut in Klagenfurt, Darmstadt and Duisburg. The quartet will tour again in the United States and Canada, and will continue various concert projects in Czech Republic including its engagement at Dvořák’s Prague Festival. Since 1998 the quartet bears the name of the violinist and director of a music conservatory in Prague, Antonín Bennewitz (1833-1926) who contributed greatly to the establishment of the Czech violin school. The most significant musicians who count among his disciples are Otakar Ševčík and František Ondříček and above all Karel Hoffman, Josef Suk and Oskar Nedbal who, under Bennewitz’s influence, formed the famous Bohemian Quartet.

Named ‘Best Group/Duo’ at the International Acoustic Music Awards, acoustic-duo Ryanhood got their first break more than a decade ago as street-performers at Boston’s Quincy Market. It was there that they were spotted by a music agent and thrust into the college touring scene, where Campus Activities Magazine would name them “one of the most requested acts by college buyers all across the country.” They’ve since performed more than a thousand shows across the US and have shared stages with Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson, Train, and many more. Bluegrass heroes Stillhouse Junkies are on the forefront of breaking through the genre with their free-flowing musical interplay that weaves roots, classical, texas-swing and blues into a high-energy, intricately composed yet expansively improvised tapestry of sound. Larry Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe Troop is from North Carolina and is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old time musician. Larry was forced into exile and is an asylum seeker in North Carolina. Joe, after a decade in South America, got stranded back in his stomping grounds in the pandemic. Larry worked construction to make ends meet. Joe’s acclaimed “latingrass” band Che Apalache was forced into hiatus, and he shifted into action working with asylum seeking migrants. Then Larry met Joe.  Both men are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. Upstairs in the Opera House Bar. Pete Seeger, the father of the folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s, wrote a number of songs that have become classics.  Allan Winkler, an American historian, wrote a biography of Pete and in the course of that project, visited regularly with him, and played music with him each time.  Today’s program describes these visits, and highlights Seeger’s involvement in every major social movement of the 20th century: the labor movement; the civil rights struggle; the Vietnam War protest; and the environmental movement.  This session will describe Pete’s contributions to American life.  And with Winkler’s guitar accompaniment, it will include a dozen of his best-loved songs. The Soldiers’ Chorus, founded in 1957, is the vocal complement of the United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC. The 29–member mixed choral ensemble travels throughout the nation and abroad, performing as a separate component and in joint concerts with the Concert Band of the “Musical Ambassadors of the Army.” The chorus has performed in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, India, the Far East, and throughout Europe, entertaining audiences of all ages. The musical backgrounds of Soldiers’ Chorus personnel range from opera and musical theatre to music education and vocal coaching; this diversity provides unique programming flexibility. In addition to presenting selections from the vast choral repertoire, Soldiers’ Chorus performances often include the music of Broadway, opera, barbershop quartet, and Americana. US Army Band’s Soldiers’ Chorus

Crisscrossing France from Auvergne to Provence, Brittany to Paris and beyond, this program by Tapestry and friends bring together a rich blend of Impressionism, folk roots, and a touch of jazz. Along the way, they share Occitan folk songs that inspired Joseph Canteloube’s Chants D’Auvergne, paired with works of Gabriel Faure, Caesar Frank, Cecile Chaminade, French folk songs, dance tunes, Django Reinhardt, Edith Piaf and more! Tim Sample was raised in Boothbay Harbor and brings his humor back to town each summer during his annual Opera House show. He is famous for both his presentation and his Maine accent and has sold over a million copies of his books, albums, and videos, including4 albums and a video for Bert and I. Thirty years ago, in the summer of 1993, Sample was recruited by Charles Kuralt a correspondent for the CBS News Sunday Morning show. Over the following 11 years, Tim produced over 100 “Postcards from Maine” segments which introduced millions of viewers around the nation and the world to the lifestyles of Mainers. Acoustic instrumental music has never been so beautifully represented as by Alison Brown.  As one of the most multi-faceted minds on today’s roots music scene, every one of Alison’s endeavors is marked by innovation, intelligence, and grace. As a banjo player, she throws out the textbook when it comes playing the banjo and the result is a sound that blends the rugged drive of bluegrass with the harmonic sensibilities of jazz, earning vast acclaim and a GRAMMY award in the process. Barnstar! began as the brainchild of Zachariah Hickman (bassist for Josh Ritter, musical director for Ray Lamontagne) for a local bluegrass supergroup featuring some of Boston’s best musicians and songwriters. Using the familiar tools of the genre—guitar (Mark Erelli), fiddle (Jake Armerding), mandolin (Taylor Armerding) and banjo (Charlie Rose)—Barnstar! Has forged its own brand of song- based bluegrass, gloriously harmonized and raucously played. The band debuted in 2011 with C’mon!, a mix of distinctive originals and unexpected covers (Neil Young, Dawes, The Traveling Wilburys) cut live in the studio. Despite juggling various high-profile sideman gigs behind other artists, the lads in Barnstar! managed to cause quite a stir with relatively few appearances. Tribute to Earl Scruggs. “Tony Trischka is known as the father of modern bluegrass” says the New York Times. He is considered the consummate banjo artist and perhaps the most influential banjo player in the roots music world.  For more than 50 years, his stylings have inspired a whole generation of bluegrass and acoustic musicians with the many voices he has brought to the instrument. Tonight Tony will be honoring the music of Earl Scruggs, pioneer of the three-finger banjo style and one of the most important musicians in bluegrass, or, in Tony’s opinion, in any genre. Trischka recently came into possession of extremely rare recordings of jam sessions with Scruggs and John Hartford, and he’s transcribed and recorded Scruggs’s note-for-note solos from a number of these. Many songs that Earl had never recorded. Together with his ace band—Michael Daves on vocals and guitar, fiddler Alex Hargreaves and bassist Jared Engel— they will trace the story of Scruggs from his childhood to his final years. About the band: Lexie Boatright is a multiple All-Ireland award-winning harpist and concertina player. Jake James is a two-time All-Ireland fiddle champion, bodhrán player, and dancer from Queens, NYC. The Irish Echo called his 2018 album Firewood an “outstanding debut solo recording.” Cara Wildman has toured with Joanie Madden & Cherish the Ladies and was the 2021 All-Ireland Fleadhfest champion and has a Masters in Irish Traditional Music Performance from the University of Limerick in Ireland. Ryan Ward is an award-winning pianist and accordion player hailing from NYC. He is a Senior All-Ireland Accompaniment Champion and has performed extensively across the Feis circuit and is a highly sought after accompanist in the NY area.
