My swansong. My final bow. There’ll be a Q & A at every event. And I’ll be signing any or all of my 19 books, including The Genetic Book of the Dead, which will be just published. Set in an imaginary land in medieval times, the symbolist play Pelléas et Mélisande is a tragic love story. Pelléas loves Mélisande, but she’s married to his brother. What unfolds inspired a range of composers, including Debussy and Fauré, with Fauré’s first response coming in 1898. It was the incidental music for a London production of the play, written at breakneck speed and orchestrated by his pupil Charles Koechlin for orchestration. However, Fauré later extracted 3 movements from that, reorchestrating them himself to make up the concert suite in today’s programme, while still retaining the Sicilienne in it’s original form. It’s elegant, colourful and highly atmospheric music.

The mammoth tour marks 25 years since Anastacia’s debut studio album which was released in 2000. Anastacia first broke through in Europe with smash hit, I’m Outta Love, which featured on the album, and the star has continued to have global success ever since. The tour will see the biggest voice in pop visit Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, Ireland and the UK.

OCS remain one of the most successful -and most loved- bands of the modern era. Having spent six years fine-tuning their sound, they lit up the Britpop party, chalking up three Top 5 albums- 1996’s Moseley Shoals, 1997’s Marchin’ Already and 1999’s One From The Modern and a run of nine successive Top 20 single’s including the immortal The Riverboat Song (in total they have seventeen Top 40 singles and six Top Ten singles).

Strauss’s incidental music for Ariadne auf Naxos gives more than a flavour of its protagonists flitting across the opera stage. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.24 just pre-dates Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro and it too brings all the poise and characterful drama of opera to the concert stage. Our second half moves from the world of opera to ballet, as Tchaikovsky finished his Third Symphony before writing Swan Lake and this work pirouettes with the kinetic energy of the corps de ballet.

To close, a second visit to the no-holds-barred emotional world of Rachmaninoff’s symphonies (though you’ll have to wait until 2025/26 for Symphony No.3!) and the achingly beautiful, flamboyantly majestic Second.
