Featured in the program are elegant passages from King’s Suite Etta (1997), Following the Subtle Current Upstream (2000), Dust and Light (2009), Writing Ground (2010), Resin (2013), and Child of Sky and Earth (2021), a solo originally choreographed for NYC Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck.

Fall Season 2023 Thursday Performance

Moscelyne ParkeHarrison will provide essential tools for dancers to explore their contemporary dance practice. The Contemporary Dance Tools workshop will begin with a warmup class focusing on full-body, feel-good movements with short sequences targeting different elements of contemporary dance. The second portion of the workshop will further break down necessary principles of contemporary dance including, but not limited to, floor-work, continuous movement, and improvisation, as well as building a repertoire of dynamics and texture.

Class will be facilitated in both the cypher (circle) as well as formal class format, facing the mirror. This series is geared toward the intermediate or advanced dancer looking to explore themselves creatively through American vernacular (street) dance philosophies, all while utilizing contemporary dance as a conduit for their exploration. In this class we will be focusing on style-building through the exploration of improvisational directives, and depending on the lesson, we’ll also play with these concepts in the context of choreography. We will start with a guided improvisation/freestyle concepts class, and then expand on these directives through play and in a diverse array of choreographic contexts.

Sally’s Absolute Beginner Series is for adults who are new or returning to ballet after a long absence. Classes move at a slow and methodical pace, focusing on proper alignment, muscle engagement, and coordination. Come enrich yourself and practice the fundamentals of ballet, including the basic positions of the legs and arms.

Bring your teen in for an afternoon of dance at our studios. Our Teens Summer Masterclass Series kicks off with a ballet class from faculty member Victor Talledos. Next, students will explore the creative process of contemporary dance with LINES Ballet Training Program alum Katie Roy. Then, they’ll join Moscelyne ParkeHarrison, associate artistic director of Post:ballet, for new approaches to contemporary movement. Your teen can choose one masterclass, or take all three with us!

Afro Dance is a culmination of different dance styles throughout the continent of Africa. Miko’s class provides an open space to explore the rich culture of the African diaspora as well as its techniques and foundations. The techniques, specific movements, and routines covered in class are paired with Afrobeats music and various linked genres. This style of dance is all about energy and vibes, allowing the dancer to flow with the movement. Dancers will leave with the knowledge of a new dance style, joy, and a sense of empowerment.

We are overjoyed to welcome Flamenco back to the studio! Ms. Tachíria Flamenco will boldly share the flamenco technique as she leads up to teaching a short piece of choreography. Geared towards both absolute beginners and intermediate flamenco students, this class will get you moving, sweating, and working a long skirt (which you are highly encouraged, but not required, to wear to class).

Kyle Limin’s Hip Hop class is a wonderful introduction to the fundamental grooves and mechanics associated with hip hop dance and culture. This classes focus on basic choreography that combines footwork and isolations with current dance crazes. This four session workshop will guide you through a dance making process that will culminate in an in-studio performance. You will learn a piece of choreography from I Want This Instead, a piece created by Rubel for dance company Tim Rubel Human Shakes in 2021. You will also contribute your own movement ideas to the process based on the piece’s original conceptual ideas.

Margot Rose Lederer is a 25-year career professional in the field of local and international community and economic development. She has worked within the public, private, and non-profit sectors and is a lifelong classical Indonesian performing arts professional. Margot began her studies of West Javanese, Central Javanese, and Balinese dance in Berkeley, CA in 1974. She developed a passion for the West Javanese style, with its dynamic interplay between the dancer and the drummer who leads the Gamelan orchestra. She spent two years furthering her studies under Irawati Durban Ardjo, one of the leading dancers and teachers in West Java since the 1960s. Margot has also performed and taught dance while living in Australia.

Her choreography allows for personal embellishment and expressiveness. Creativity is encouraged!
