This intimate performance for Good Friday highlights monumental works by Tallis, Bach and Howells. Opening with Knut Nystedt’s ode to Bach, Komm süsser Tod, the program transitions to Thomas Tallis’s stunning Lamentations of Jeremiah I. In the last of our series of Bach motets started in 2013, we will perform his iconic Jesu Meine Freude, featuring 11 movements of chorales, choruses and solo trios. The concert concludes with Herbert Howells’ Requiem, an introspective and contemplative work that exploits the full range of vocal harmonic colours that are a signature of Luminous Voices.

Cat Kid and Molly Pollywog have started an epic club to teach 21 rambunctious baby frogs how to make their own comics! In the rise of Spoken Word’s popularity, that open door cannot be discussed without saying the name Shane Koyczan. In 2010, the world caught a glimpse of Koyczan’s prodigious talent with his presentation at the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. This stand-out performance helped shine a light on this street poet from Vancouver’s downtown east side.

The Calgary Youth Orchestra, presents a concert of spectacular music, including Tchaikovsky's most famous symphony, his 5th, which was premiered, to the day, exactly 136 years ago: November 17, 1888. The concert also features the first prize winner of the 2024 Frank Simpson CYO Concerto Competition, Chanan Ngo, in a performance of the first movement of Erich Korngold's Violin Concerto. Also on the progran is Beethoven's stirring Leonore Overture written as an operning to his only opera, Fidelio.
