Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut, El Dorado, garnering a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Americana Album.” Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life’s worth of sins and degradation and all that’s left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It’s as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and onto the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he’s so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there’s no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can’t help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus’s voice.

Named after the legendary violinist Adolf Busch, this European ensemble has emerged as one of their generation’s ‘leading piano trios’ (Süddeutsche Zeitung). Described as playing with ‘effortless musicianship’ (The Times) and great emotional sensitivity, Mathieu van Bellen (violin), Ori Epstein (cello), and Omri Epstein (piano) met in London during their studies at the Royal College of Music, more than a decade ago. In recent seasons, Busch Trio has performed at Konzerthaus Berlin, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris and across the US and Canada. Having recored 8 CDs on Alpha Classics since 2016, their most recent 2023 release, Ravel & Shostakovich: Piano Trios, was called “a first-rate issue” by Gramophone and “absolutely overwhelming” by BBC Music Magazine. They are currently in the process of recording a further 5 CDs of Beethoven’s Complete Piano Trios. The Busch Trio performs on the Ex-Adolf Busch, 1783 G.B. Guadagnini violin and and an 1815 G.B. Ceruti cello. The Trio members live in Amsterdam and maintain their intensive rehearsal and performance schedule.

The members of the ensemble are incredibly accomplished chamber musicians and graduates of leading conservatories, including The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Mannes College of Music, and Bard College. With a philosophical investment in reaching out to children, the group is dedicated to bringing in the next generation of music lovers.  About Strings School Days:Strings School Days is a unique music and arts education program provided by Strings Music Festival at no cost to schools, students, or teachers. Annually, the program serves over 3,000 K-12 students in 14 schools throughout the Yampa Valley. The program provides an opportunity for local students to learn from, rehearse with, and perform alongside professional musicians. Through this program, Strings aims for students to appreciate diverse cultures, develop a broad worldview, and move forward with confidence as arts supporters in their secondary and post-secondary lives.

With support from The Ballroom Thieves. Four-time Grammy Award-winner Sarah Jarosz comes to the Strings in support of her newest album, Polaroid Lovers. Sarah Jarosz released her debut album at the age of 18 and was immediately nominated for her first GRAMMY. Raised in Texas, she began playing mandolin at age 10 with guitar and banjo soon after. To date, she has released six studio albums, has netted ten GRAMMY Nominations, and four wins. In 2018, she joined Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek and Aoife O’Donovan to form the supergroup, I’m With Her. The group released their debut album See You Around, and won duo/group of the year at the Americana Awards. Their song, ‘Call My Name’ won the GRAMMY for Best American Roots Song. Four-time GRAMMY winner Sarah Jarosz has announced her new album, Polaroid Lovers. The record is set for release on January 26, 2024 via Rounder Records. To mark the occasion she has shared the album opener, ‘Jealous Moon,’ and its companion video. WATCH HERE. Experience the electrifying duo of violinist Strauss Shi and guitarist TY Zhang as they captivate audiences with their genre-blending, cross-era chamber music.  Free community event! Please join us for the 2024 Intersections series presented by Strings Music Festival and the Steamboat Art Museum, where classical music and art converge. These free events are open to music lovers of all ages. The second performance features ArcoStrum, the award-winning duo of violinist Strauss Shi and guitarist TY Shang. ArcoStrum is committed to pushing boundaries and redefining the 12st-century violin-guitar art form, presenting a new chamber music that is mixed-genre, multicultural, and cross-era.  Doors open at 5:30pm. The performance begins at 6:00pm and is followed by a Q&A session. All Intersections performances take place at the Steamboat Art Museum. Space is limited.

They began as a forward-thinking, progressive bluegrass band who was unafraid to stir in any number of highly combustible styles into their ever-evolving sound, found their role as a pioneer of the modern jam band scene, and have evolved to their current status as elder-statesmen of the scene who cast a hugely influential shadow over every festival they play. *Please note, this will be a dancing show with all reserved seating.
