A Symphony of Events: Leipziger Sinfonieorchester’s Season Unveiled

The Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, the exceptional singer Markus Engelstaedter, the enchanting soloist Olga Jelínková, the renowned a cappella quintet Ensemble Nobiles, and a rock band, conducted by Stephan König and moderated by Kristina Nerad, present the greatest hits of the British rock band Queen in a new guise. Freddie Mercury's unmistakable sound is complemented by the Queen's classic coronation music by George Frideric Handel, Henry Purcell, and Edward Elgar – a musical dialogue of the highest order. This blend makes the evening an extraordinary experience, blurring the line between "rock in symphony" and "symphony in rock."

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., the Young Music Academy's annual gala concert will take place at the Böhlen Cultural Center. A varied program awaits you with young soloists from the music school, a musical zoo story, and the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andreas Mitschke. Some solo instruments will be seen and heard twice, for example, the Violin Concerto for two solo violins by Antonio Vivaldi and the Concertino in E-flat major for two horns and orchestra by Friedrich Witt. With the motto "Animal," this year's program is dedicated to the sounds of the animal world. In addition to the famous "Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saëns, the program will also feature the wonderful music of John Powell from the film "How to Train Your Dragon." Each year, the concert is aimed especially at families with young children and offers a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the orchestral instruments and the music school. Admission is free. Donations can be made at the exit.

Powerful yet sensitive playing, a pronounced sense of lyricism, an introverted yet direct expressiveness – these are the hallmarks of pianist Ekaterine Khvedelidze 's performances . Her commitment to piano music of the 19th and early 20th centuries focuses on Eastern European composers such as Chopin, Scriabin, and Medtner. Khvedelidze's repertoire also includes works by Franck, Brahms, Alban Berg, and many other composers. Born in Georgia, she began piano lessons with the renowned pedagogue Medea Gamsakhurdia at the age of five. Her subsequent career took her first to the Detmold University of Music before accepting an invitation from the legendary Russian pianist and Scriabin specialist Igor Zhukov to study with him in Moscow. Zhukov saw Khvedelidze as his artistic successor. Ekaterine Khvedelidze has lived in Berlin for many years. Here and nationally, she appears with cleverly planned recital programs.

Because it is still so beautiful, the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra is once again inviting people to the traditional OPERA & PASTA in the Torgau Cultural Center. The orchestra has selected well-known waltz melodies and operetta sounds. The LSO is supported by soloists from the Torgau International Singers Academy. The Spanish soprano Carmen Boatella and the regionally well-known tenor Nils Hübinette will enchant the audience in the relaxed atmosphere of a delicious feast under the motto "Wine, men, women and song".  Robbert van Steijn will conduct and moderate the evening.
