Paavo Järvi has been the artistic director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen for more than two decades, and together this musical dream team has raced to the top of the international music world. In this concert, they combine the energy of a young Schubert with a subtle Mozart, partnering with Mao Fujita, a pianist who, at just his mid-20s, is already considered the leading Mozart interpreter of his generation.

200 years of Johann Strauss: This deserves to be celebrated! Without Strauss, the waltz virus would certainly not have triggered a global pandemic and would not have so persistently stuck in people's dancing feet. If that isn't worth a dazzling birthday concert! The musical multi-talent Aleksey Igudesman – Viennese by choice, devilish violinist, composer with a sharp pen, and brilliant entertainer – will perform. Together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, he will play his way in ecstasy through the waltz sounds of the world, twinning Strauss with Jewish klezmer, oriental elements from One Thousand and One Nights, Latin American fervor, and Celtic mysticism. The waltz king can even demonstrate his widescreen qualities, for Hollywood has long since discovered his immortal melodies. For film music legend Hans Zimmer, they are part of the basic musical vocabulary. With spirited arrangements by Zimmer and Igudesman, Strauss becomes a screen star this evening.

As part of the philharmonic "portrait" series dedicated to it, the Alinde Quartet can be heard in a very unusual line-up. In 2000, Wolfgang Rihm wrote a "Concerto" for string quartet and orchestra. It will be accompanied by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen with works by Bartók and Beethoven.
