The Nordhausen Ballet TN LOS! is international! The 12 dancers come from many different nations, the common language is English. Every year, their regular work with ballet director Ivan Alboresi is supplemented by renowned guest choreographers from all over the world, who bring out at least one additional production per season with the company. The international flair of the Nordhausen Ballet also promotes a large gala with guests every two years: companies travel from all directions to the southern Harz to take part in a festive evening together with the ballet TN LOS!. Nordhausen becomes a center of contemporary dance here, presents the signatures of other choreographers, the dynamics of other companies that are as colorfully composed as the local ensemble, and is also an excellent opportunity to get to know each other, to exchange ideas and to find inspiration.

If she hadn't got into trouble with the trolls on her last cave tour, she and the orchestra would not have been magically transported from the 19th century to the present day. Damn trolls! Will the children be able to help her get back to her time and the land of mythical creatures?

"Love is blind," is what is usually said. In Peter I. Tchaikovsky's last opera, "Iolanta," it is different: it is only love that makes the title heroine see. The young woman, daughter of the Provençal king René, has always been blind. But she knows nothing about it. In order to supposedly protect her, those around her keep this from her, as well as the fact that she is a princess. It is only a stranger who rescues her from her paradisiacal world of illusion: the Burgundian knight Vaudémont reveals to Iolanta that she is blind, thus initiating her healing process, at the end of which, through the power of love and thanks to her own strong will, she can finally see.

Three physics experts live together in a psychiatric hospital. One claims to be Albert Einstein, the other thinks he is Sir Isaac Newton. Finally, the third, Johann Wilhelm Möbius, has a mental image of King Solomon. All three are playing a crazy game of hide-and-seek and surveillance. Möbius has left his wife and children and voluntarily placed himself in isolation. The reason: he has discovered the "world formula" which he does not want to pass on because it could lead to the extinction of humanity. The other two men are also faking their illness. In reality, they are secret agents of competing superpowers, sent after Möbius in order to seize the knowledge advantage that will secure world domination. What none of them knows is that the psychiatrist has her own plans...

After observing a strange light phenomenon in the night sky, a group of teenagers wake up the next morning with supernatural abilities. Suddenly they are able to hear other people's thoughts, speak any language they want or stop time. And as a group they now have to ask themselves the question: do we keep our differences a secret, or do we go public? Would we become rich and famous, or would people be afraid of us and reject us as "freaks" if we revealed ourselves? While the group's cohesion begins to crumble over this conflict, a threat also appears from outside: The "Authority for Supernatural Affairs" has taken on the matter and is now after the teenagers.

Normally, the Marquise de Merteuil gets rid of her lovers. But it was different with the Comte de Gercourt, who ended the liaison. To take revenge on him, the Vicomte de Valmont, who is well-versed in all the arts of seduction, is supposed to take away Gercourt's virgin bride's innocence before the wedding. Antoine's life could not be better. He is a successful businessman, has a media presence, and an attractive woman is at his side. Then he is surprised by an unannounced visitor from Africa: Antoine's former childhood sweetheart Maryse has broken off her humanitarian mission in Malawi and is returning to Paris. She reminds her ex-boyfriend that they got married on a whim in Las Vegas 25 years ago. She wants a divorce, but then she would be entitled to half of his assets. How can Antoine save his luxurious life? He moves into his housekeeper's apartment and plays the role of a welfare recipient. However, he underestimates Maryse's helper syndrome and catapults himself more and more into a seemingly hopeless situation.

This double evening with two very different choreographic signatures gets to the bottom of the challenges and secrets of life. Ballet director Ivan Alboresi has once again invited a top-class guest to Nordhausen to work with the ballet TN LOS!. The award-winning Spaniard Alba Castillo has created numerous works for companies around the globe. In 2020 she founded the Basel-based company Snorkel Rabbit with Bryan Arias. With expressive movements and intense storytelling, she is always exploring new boundaries.

It is the home of Papa Baboon, Mr. Moufflon, the marmot girl and several other animal residents. »Nice and cuddly and totally familiar« . But one day the rhinoceros dies and the newcomer, a young bear from Siberia, causes turmoil with his curiosity and uncomfortable questions. What is the deal with the rickety zebra creatures on the other side of the buzzing fence? Why does stinking smoke keep coming out of the tall chimney even in the most beautiful spring? And who are these booted people that everyone is afraid of? Papa Baboon says that no one should interfere, after all they are doing well in the zoo. But the bear cannot just look away; he decides to take action.

This offer, which is aimed specifically at families, will allow us to discover our interim venue, the theater in the extension, in a playful way in around 75 minutes and hear exciting stories about everyday work at the theater, e.g. how and where wigs are knotted and costumes are made. These tours are suitable for everyone aged 6 and over and are barrier-free in the new theater building! The family tours take place every two months on Sundays. The new "long-running hit" in the traditional Nordhausen distillery will be on show for you again this season. In his story about the Brenner family of entrepreneurs, the author Matthias Kitter combines fictional events with interesting facts about the cultural history of grain and guarantees the very best entertainment!

Christmas, as a Christian festival with which the birth of Jesus is celebrated in this country, stands for charity, family togetherness and community. Supported by the Nordhausen Theater and the Protestant parish of St. Blasii, this "Nordhausen Singspiel" brings together local citizens of all ages. Because it is they who bring the theater to the stage and make it an event for society as a whole. "The Star of Bethlehem" tells the Christmas story with catchy and emotional (Christmas) songs and choirs, spoken dialogues and pantomime. The Singspiel spans a wide range: from the announcement of the birth of Jesus, the arduous journey on foot of Joseph and the pregnant Mary to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus to the visit of the three wise men and the flight of the young family from King Herod. After the Nordhausen LutherMusical in 2017, the city is once again expecting a very special theater experience "for everyone".

Man and nature, transience and new beginnings, romanticism and modernity - these pairs of terms can be used to describe the themes that ballet director Ivan Alboresi deals with in this double evening. Sources of inspiration for the first part are the romantic landscape painter Caspar David Friedrich and Ludwig van Beethoven. Friedrich, whose birthday will be the 250th anniversary in September 2024, not only made his "chalk cliffs on Rügen" world famous. He immersed his motifs in masterful lighting moods, with which he expressed, among other things, the vulnerability of nature. In combination with Beethoven's 4th Symphony, in which lyrical lightheartedness meets darker colors, Ivan Alboresi's choreography paints a poetic vision of a relationship between man and nature that is as complex as it is intimate.

Hollywood film magnate Sam Makintosh urgently needs an unusual subject for a new film. His daughter Marylou has an idea: the new film should be based on real life, with actors who bring their own fate to the screen. After a look at the gossip press, she believes she has found the perfect inspiration in the Grand Hotel in Cannes, France, because that is where the Infanta Isabella and her court stayed after the proclamation of the republic in Spain. It turns out that everything is in turmoil here. The strong-willed Marylou throws herself into the thick of things and is soon swept away by the maelstrom of events herself.

Georges Bizet did not live to see the success of his last opera, "Carmen," as he died just a few months after its premiere, which took place in March 1875 at the Paris Opera-comique. At the time, there was a hail of harsh criticism: the title character, for example, was "obscene" in her unconditional love of freedom, an "incarnation of vice" and should be "banned by the police." The composer and his librettists portrayed the dramatic story of the spirited Spanish woman Carmen and her lover Don José in a drastic realism that was unusual for the time. Carmen, who loves her independence and does not allow herself to be taken over, increasingly frees herself from the possessive clutches of Don José. The latter is drawn into a fatal vortex of jealousy and mistrust.

On the journey from the Baroque to modern music, we learn about the changes in orchestral formations and thus also in the orchestral sound from Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn to Franz Schubert and other Romantics up to the 20th century. The Loh Orchestra plays excerpts from various works, which are explained by Katrin Stöck, taken apart, put back together and brought to the attention of the young audience in a playful way.

"Useless sleeping bristle!", "Light-shy prickly creature!", "Bristly idler!" The hedgehog woman has had enough again. With a stern lecture, she throws her husband, the lazy Mr. Hedgehog, out of bed. He goes off and makes himself comfortable in the field. But just at the moment when the hedgehog has settled down in a furrow, the haughty Mussjö Hare comes along, stumbles over the dozing Mr. Hedgehog and scolds him: "Crooklegs!" The sensation-hungry raven immediately goes on to tell what the hare said about the hedgehog. Mrs. Hedgehog is outraged. Because only one person is allowed to insult her "heart-thorn", and that is her. Besides, hedgehogs stick together in times of need. When Mussjö Hare then dares to take over the beet field under his perfectly manicured nails, an unequal competition ensues. Hare against hedgehog – or against hedgehog? Or both? And who is ultimately faster and can shout "I'm already here!"?

Adam is one of the coolest boys in school, is super athletic and very popular with the other children. Atticus, on the other hand, is interested in books, human history and is also popular - but only with the teachers. The others bully him at school.

Even in his youth, the narrow-chested, bespectacled high school student Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht loved the ballad singers, eccentric clowns, fairground pimps, and shooting gallery showmen who sold the people inexpensive but by no means cheap entertainment. At the Plärrer - the Augsburg bird shooting - he appeared with a clique of like-minded people, plucked an out-of-tune guitar and sang ballads he had set to music himself in a croaking voice. His idols could not have been more different: the pathetic Schiller on his right, and on his left, Bavaria's great comedian Karl Valentin. "My love of clarity comes from my unclear way of thinking," he remarked coquettishly, although Brecht found his topic earlier than many of his contemporaries: social misery. What makes people human, why are they enslaved, and why do they treat their fellow human beings so shabbily? In his dramas he made heroes of characters who rebelled, often failed in their tasks, but remained steadfast: Schweyk, Puntila, Courage, Galileo, Johanna. Despite all his justified anger at injustice and oppression, he never lost sight of the beauty of life. After all, what do people live for? For the extras. Seven clowns and a handful of musicians throw their hats into the ring of the Circus Mundi and make Brecht's songs and poems, his life and the intolerable conditions dance.

We will take a look behind the scenes together and explore our interim venue, the Theater im Anbau, in an entertaining rally. The Nordhausen Theater, which opened in 1917, established ballet as an independent ensemble with its own productions in 1954 - exactly 70 years ago! From then on, it brought one or two of its own productions to the stage every year, and since the 1990s often three. Today, the ensemble has long been a fixture in the cultural life of the city and the region and, under the direction of ballet director Ivan Alboresi, enjoys an excellent reputation throughout the dance world. In 2023, the company was nominated as "Company of the Year" in the trade magazine "Tanz".

Like no other country, Italy stands for opera as a drama of passions and a place of the highest singing art. It was "invented" in Italy over 500 years ago, and many composers and countless singers have achieved great fame there through it. In this gala we will be bringing the crème de la crème of Italian bel canto to our ears. Among them are Gioacchino Rossini, the master of the comic field and the brilliant coloratura in "The Barber of Seville", as well as Gaetano Donizetti ("Lucia di Lammermoor"). Also not to be missed is Giuseppe Verdi, whose overwhelming emotional music, for example in his "La Traviata", made him world famous. The operas of Giacomo Puccini, the well-known representative of so-called "verismo", are equally immortal. Ruggero Leoncavallo is also congenial with the opera "Pagliacci" ("Pajazzo"). In addition to highlights from the works of these and other composers, there will be samples from the upcoming season, including excerpts from Mozart's opera "Idomeneo".

The singer Orpheus loses his beloved wife Eurydice to the poisonous bite of a snake. With his singing he softens Hades, the god of the underworld, who then grants him access to the realm of the dead to be with his wife. Orpheus is allowed to accompany Eurydice back to life. But only on the condition that he does not look back at her on the way. But that is precisely what he does not manage!

With the song "Waterloo", the then unknown Swedish pop band ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton in 1974. This performance was the start of a rapid international career. With songs like "SOS", "Mamma Mia", "Dancing Queen", "Thank You for the Music" and "The Winner Takes It All", the four musicians took the hearts of millions of people by storm and topped the charts worldwide.

The beautiful and at the same time ice-cold Princess Turandot, "the Pure", only wants to marry the prince who can solve her three essentially unsolvable riddles. If he fails, the unsuccessful suitor will be executed. Prince Calàf, irretrievably in love with her, wants to face the tests. Everyone tries to dissuade him from his deadly plan: his blind father Timur, the slave Liů, who herself has fallen in unrequited love for Calàf, and even the three imperial ministers. Nevertheless, he takes the risk and, to Turandot's horror, solves all the riddles. Recognizing her resistance, he poses a riddle of his own, but in the end he reveals the solution, thereby surrendering himself to Turandot once again...

Something particularly exciting awaits you: Three choreographies by different artists in an additional, third ballet production this season surprise with a colorful palette of dance expression possibilities. They are all young talents, have danced themselves for many years and have also already appeared with their own choreographic creations. In dance, the choreographers reflect their view of the world, visualize experiences, impressions, experiences and take the audience on a moving journey. Giovanni Insaudo's inspiration is the relationship between man and the cosmos. Max Levy is concerned with an "intensive introspection about the perception of the world around us" . The choreographer duo Tu Hoang & Hiro Murata are prizewinners of the 37th International Competition for Choreography Hannover 2023, where ballet director Ivan Alboresi himself was a member of the top-class international jury. The duo won the competition's production prize, which now enables them to create their own piece for the Nordhausen Theater. This integrates the different cultures of the dancers of the ballet TN LOS! and creates a very unique synthesis.

30th South Harz School Theater Days

In 1983, "La Cage aux Folles" was the first musical to deal with a homosexual theme. After its premiere on Broadway in New York, it conquered the stages of Europe within a few years. With its turbulent story, its shrill characters and its catchy music, it is still very popular today and remains timelessly relevant with its plea to trust your own feelings and live authentically.

Vicco von Bülow, alias Loriot, is legendary in this country. For decades he entertained German-speaking audiences with his witty television sketches - often together with his acting partner Evelyn Hamann - and he still does so today, more than ten years after his death in August 2011. Many stories have become so ingrained in the collective memory that certain everyday situations are always associated with Loriot. Loriot himself is often at the centre of his sketches, as a serious announcer and protagonist of the scene. Many biting cartoons initially caused scandals because he liked to take aim at German bourgeois society with his keen powers of observation. Today, Loriot has long been a classic, with his audience taking a deep interest in him.

Ballet Workshop »Les Noces, Night/Thoughts«

A group of young people today are firmly convinced of this. But swing was banned in Nazi Germany, as were youth groups outside of the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls. The swing kids, or swingers, as they called themselves, were not impressed by this. They strove for individuality and self-determination. Just like the "Edelweiss Pirates" in the Rhineland and the "Leipzig Mobs," they were persecuted and severely punished for this.

The stepmother has brought a lot of misfortune upon the royal family: the eleven sons were bewitched and Elisa, the king's only daughter, was chased out of the castle by her father. In her dream she meets wild swans - her enchanted brothers - and learns how to break the evil spell. The well-known fairy tale "The Wild Swans" by Hans Christian Andersen is a story about learning to fly, discovering the world and the power of love. The Eisenach State Theater is continuing the "Classics in 45 Minutes" series from last season and is a guest at our children's and youth theater festival "Spring Rolls" with another well-known work from children's and young people's literature.

Mouse, snail, frog and sparrow meet at the pond. They want to do something together. But what? Frog has an idea: a competition to see who is the bravest!

Brave, Brave

"Romeo and Juliet" is Shakespeare's first real tragedy and a masterpiece of lyrical theatre. The action unfolds at breakneck speed within a few days. The Montague and Capulet families are enemies. Resentment, intrigue and bloody conflicts determine their relationships. Romeo sees Juliet for the first time at the masked ball of his arch-enemies, the Capulets, and immediately falls in love with her. Juliet is also smitten. Forced into the conflict between their parents' homes, the couple's uncompromising love becomes an act of resistance and a lived revolt. However, Shakespeare lets his young protagonists die through two tragic misunderstandings.

Two luxury bunnies are relaxing by their pool. It is a wave pool, a fun pool, a whirlpool and a slide paradise all in one. Of course, the water is always the perfect temperature for bunny feet. A machine produces the best gummy bears ever, and fried chicken flies into their wide-open noses with the power of thought. Of course, the bunnies only ever wear the very latest swimming trunks, which also change color every ten seconds. That makes it bearable! Everything is great! Well, almost everything. Countless scientific calculations, studies and observations prove that the planet of the bunnies will explode in exactly ten days. But here at the pool, it is easy to ignore that. At least for a while.

In four tableaux, the work, which was created for the legendary Ballets Russes in Paris, depicts scenes from a Russian peasant wedding as an archaic ritual, and its rhythmic force is reminiscent of the scandalous "Le sacre du printemps" (The Rite of Spring), composed 10 years earlier. After "Petrushka" and "The Firebird", Nordhausen ballet director Ivan Alboresi is continuing the series of Stravinsky ballets. For "Les Noces", he has once again invited a big name to Nordhausen: choreographer Martin Harriague, whose virtuoso and explosive works are performed internationally by major ensembles.

The lives of Juliet, daughter of the Capulet family, and Romeo, son of the Montagues, would certainly have been different if Juliet had married Count Paris, who was her intended, and Romeo had married his love, Rosalinda. But things turned out differently: when they first met, Romeo and Juliet fell madly in love. But they knew that a romantic relationship was impossible, as their families had been in bitter conflict for a long time. When the secret relationship was discovered, a fateful fight broke out between Romeo and Juliet's cousin Tybalt, which ended in death for the latter and finally destroyed any hope of a happy outcome for the lovers.

Josepha Vogelhuber, landlady of the "White Horse Inn" on the Austrian Wolfgangsee, has the well-being of her guests at heart. Above all, that of her regular guest Dr. Siedler, a distinguished lawyer from Berlin, to whom she has fallen in love. He, however, is interested in the young Ottilie, which in turn pleases Josepha's head waiter Leopold Brandmeyer, because he only has eyes for his boss. In the idyllic Austrian holiday resort, there are a number of emotional turbulences, which an important visitor is able to resolve so skilfully that everyone ends up with a happy ending.

The flower shop owner Mr. Mushnik is losing customers because his shop has little to offer other than wilted flowers. He wants to close it down. But then his employee Seymour comes up with a special breed that is a carnivorous plant. As soon as it is placed in the window, the plant becomes an attraction. But it is demanding. Seymour initially feeds it blood, but at some point this is no longer enough for the ever-growing plant. It demands human flesh. In the end, Seymour is not the only victim of his own breed...

Little Shop of Horrors

As the fairy Carabosse is not invited to little Aurora's baptism, she puts a curse on the child: the girl is to prick herself on a spindle on her 16th birthday and die. Thanks to a good fairy, however, this misfortune is mitigated. Aurora does not die, but falls into a deep sleep from which she only awakens 100 years later with a kiss from Prince Désiré. She is happily reunited with him for life and the story ends with a happy ending.

Holger Biege, who enjoyed great success as a songwriter in the GDR in the 1970s and early 1980s, was an exceptional talent. When he sang, the world literally stood still for a brief moment. With enormous stage presence and clever lyrics, he captivated his audience. His strong groove and the incredible soul in his voice earned him the nickname "Stevie Wonder of the East" in musical circles. Songs like "Will alles wagen" or "Deine Liebe und mein Lied" described losses, unfulfilled longings and the attitude to life of an entire generation. Biege was not considered nonconformist in a primarily political sense. In 1983, after a guest performance in West Berlin, he did not return to the GDR. His hopes for a career in the West were only partially fulfilled, and the dream of a large-scale comeback on the occasion of his 60th birthday in 2012 also came to nothing: Holger Biege fell ill and did not return to the stage. This recital paints a very personal portrait of the artist Holger Biege (1952–2018), who died far too early. At the same time, he talks about his great love for his wife Cordelia.
