Tucson Symphony Orchestra

Tucson, AZ, United States

Tucson Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is a premier cultural institution in Tucson, Arizona, recognized for its significant impact on the community and its commitment to music education and excellence. Established with a mission to introduce, educate, and integrate music into the lives of residents of all ages, TSO has become a core cultural pillar within the region, touching the lives of over 120,000 individuals annually, including a substantial focus on students and teachers, reaching more than 35,000 through its various programs. TSO boasts an extensive and comprehensive education and community engagement program, which is among the most expansive in the orchestra field. The organization's educational outreach includes over 300 concerts, workshops, and resources provided through the TSO Kids website. These efforts are designed to inspire children to aspire to excellence by providing them with opportunities to experience high-quality musical performances. The educational initiatives of TSO have garnered national recognition for their outstanding scope, depth, and innovation. In 2007, a study by Carnegie Mellon University and Americans for the Arts highlighted TSO's Education Programs as one of ten exemplary arts and education institutions across the United States that demonstrate best practices. In 2006, TSO's Education Programs were nominated for the National Governor's Association Distinguished Service to State Government Award. Moreover, in 2003, TSO received the American Symphony Orchestra League Award for Excellence in Orchestra Education, funded by Bank of America, which acknowledges the highest standards and remarkable accomplishments in both artistic and educational domains. TSO's concert offerings are diverse and cater to a wide audience through its Classic Series, Masterworks Series, TSO Up Close, Special Events, and Just for Kids programs. The organization also provides seating maps, gift certificates, and answers to frequently asked questions to enhance the concert-going experience. The orchestra's commitment to the community extends beyond music education. TSO encourages philanthropy through various giving opportunities, including individual donations, matching gifts, tribute gifts, planned and endowment giving, and contributions through the Arizona Public School Tax Credit. The organization also benefits from institutional giving, corporate partnerships, foundation, and government support. Volunteerism is a vital part of TSO's operations, with opportunities available for volunteer ushers and participation in the Tucson Symphony Orchestra League. The orchestra also actively engages with the community through special campaigns like the Symphony of Support, where contributions are matched by generous donors such as the Connie Hillman Family Foundation. For those interested in learning more about TSO's education programs or wishing to support the organization, inquiries can be directed to the Education Programs Manager, Alana Richardson, at education@tucsonsymphony.org or by calling 520-620-9167. As TSO continues to enrich the cultural landscape of Tucson, it remains dedicated to fostering a love for music across generations and maintaining a standard of excellence that resonates throughout its many contributions to the arts and the community at large.
