Yonder Window Theatre Company (YWTC) is a dynamic theatrical organization dedicated to exploring cross-cultural relationships both on and off stage. Founded in the winter of 2017, YWTC began with the ambitious project "The Dream Project," a multilingual, multidisciplinary retelling of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." This initial production set the tone for the company's mission, as it brought together a diverse group of artists from the United States, Mexico, and Canada, highlighting YWTC's commitment to multicultural and cross-border artistic collaboration. Since its inception, YWTC has focused on three main avenues: Multicultural and Multidisciplinary Devised Productions, New Plays, and Education. The company's work is characterized by its global collaborations, which aim to expand perspectives both creatively and socially through the exploration of universal humanistic themes affected by culture clash and globalization. "The Dream Project" has undergone several phases of development, with the first phase taking place in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, in 2017. It was followed by a second phase in Brooklyn, New York, in 2018, and a third in Montreal, Quebec, in 2019. Throughout its evolution, YWTC has built a network of skilled aerial artists, actors, and designers, capturing diverse art forms from North American culture. In addition to its productions, YWTC is deeply invested in education. The New York Teen Shakespeare Intensive (NYTSI) was remounted in the summer of 2018, offering young actors aged 15-19 an in-depth exploration of Shakespeare's works, characters, and language. NYTSI is designed to provide foundational training for aspiring actors preparing for university and professional careers. In response to the global pandemic, the intensive was taken online, allowing international participation. YWTC's commitment to nurturing new talent is further exemplified by the Ascending Playwrights Program (APP), a mentorship opportunity for playwrights aged 15-25. Launched in 2021, APP provides a platform for young playwrights to workshop new plays and receive guidance from the YWTC team. Following its success, the program gave rise to the New Works Collective, which continues to support playwrights in developing their craft. YWTC has also ventured into virtual theater, devising an entirely online project in 2020 called "Creative Crusade: The Story of Solitude," which featured approximately 45 performers from over 7 different countries. Additionally, the company developed Stagepunch, a subscription-based service aimed at helping young performers gain acceptance to their desired performing arts schools. As of the latest information available, YWTC has been producing full productions of "Jasper" and "The Last Radio Hour," with opportunities for co-producing and investment. Yonder Window Theatre Company, under the artistic direction of Katie McHugh and the training direction of Elke Van Dyke, continues to be a platform for cultural conversations and exchange, fostering a creative community that bridges gaps and unites artists from around the globe.
