Join us for an unforgettable evening at the Walt Disney Concert Hall as the legendary Itzhak Perlman takes the stage with an ensemble of world-renowned musicians for the "Itzhak Perlman and Friends" Colburn Celebrity Recital. This one-night-only event, scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 8:00 PM, promises to be a showcase of classical music mastery.

The evening's program will feature a selection of classical masterpieces, beginning with Leclair's Sonata for Two Violins in E minor, Op. 3, No. 5, followed by Mozart's Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-flat, K. 493. After an intermission, the concert will conclude with Chausson's Concert for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet, offering a rich tapestry of sounds and an exploration of musical virtuosity.

Itzhak Perlman, a reigning virtuoso of the violin, will be joined by internationally celebrated pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Emanuel Ax, along with the Juilliard String Quartet. The quartet, known for playing "magically, like a single four-voiced instrument" (Broad Street Review), includes Areta Zhulla and Ronald Copes on violins, Molly Carr on viola, and Astrid Schween on cello. To commemorate the upcoming Woman’s History Month in March, join us for a special evening of music comprised entirely of works by female composers. Featuring violist Molly Carr, the newest member of the acclaimed Juilliard String Quartet, and Bulgarian educator and pianist Anna Petrova, “HERS” vibrantly celebrates the vision, strength, resilience, and vital contributions of the female sex throughout history. Through music and storytelling, the Carr-Petrova Duo will lead the audience through the inspirations, battles, and incredible accomplishments of eight fearless women – from the 12th century’s Hildegard Von Bingen to today’s Beyoncé – and share centuries of heartbreak, struggles, and triumphs that comprise the female experience.

They will present Beethoven Op. 135 and Ravel’s Quartet in F, along with a tribute to the Op. 130 quartet by one of today's most admired and imaginative composers, Jörg Widmann, in-person on March 11 at Washington Irving Campus. The virtual concert will be available on March 12.

In collaboration with Concerts International, the Memphis Chamber Music Society is proud to present the Juilliard String Quartet. Their excellent program includes Mendelssohn’s Op. 80 Quartet in F minor, and Dvořák Op. 105 Quartet in A flat Major – the last chamber works of these two geniuses. The Juilliard Quartet has been going even longer than Takacs, now with no possibility of an original member. It is a remarkable phenomenon of music performance history, that this legendary ensemble has the same sharp, exciting edge that defined them when they began in 1946. The centerpiece of this concert is the world premiere of Michelle Ross's "Together Apart," which we commissioned as a tribute to CMNV's friend, the late violist Roger Tapping, who played often in Napa as the violist of the Takacs and then Juilliard Quartets, and as a collaborator with the Jupiter and Prazak Quartets and the Peabody Trio. Michelle Ross was a student and colleague of Roger's who recently served as the substitute first violin of the Juilliard Quartet for six months.
