Mile Zero Dance, a pioneer in showcasing contemporary dance and innovative performances, presents a series of captivating events in 2025. This includes 'The Zero Lab' initiatives featuring local artists like Marynia Fekecz-Mangan and Tia Kushniruk, and the bi-annual 'REELING: Dance on Screen' event. These events offer a platform for artists to explore new creative horizons and present their work in progress, transforming Edmonton into a vibrant stage for dance enthusiasts.

Mile Zero Dance: A Hub of Innovative Performances and Artistic Exploration

REELING: Dance on Screen is a bi-annual event that features local, Canadian, and international short works (under 10 minutes) in a variety of dance styles. From July 14-27, 2025, there will be a live screening of featured works, in addition to online offerings.

How can we be together across a veil of loss that seems so (in)finite? For choreographer Thea Patterson, Un-nevering is a response to the violent loss, in August 2021, of her life partner and artistic collaborator Jeremy Gordaneer. Exploring the shapes, textures and tones of grief, Un-nevering asks: what if there is no never?

Connections//Collisions Cabaret

Arrhythmia is a new series, commissioned by Book Works and edited by Katrina Palmer. The series publishes artists and writers whose work explores ideas of being out of joint with the predominant social order, whether through disrupted trajectories, physical displacement, or political dissonance. We asked for experimental work that articulates a discontinuous sense of identity, and writing, or where the combination of writing and images in which the rhythm of the text is self-consciously questioned. Four authors have been commissioned – novels, writing and sound work by Roy Claire Potter, Alice Walter, Andrew E. Colarusso and Kamwangi Njue.

In a distant, fictional Vietnam, the echoes of pop music on cassette tape reverberate against the sounds of modern Vietnamese rap. Châu Kim-Sanh inhabits this space, metamorphosing through bodily states generated by the presence of colored neon lights.

In this class, open to all levels and experiences, we will bring the value of agility and tactility to awaken our inner CATS. We will work on conscious duetting by using rolling point, sloughing, bridging, yielding, anchoring, pressure modulation, internal expansion and weigh-sharing to sharpen our physical awareness and dexterity.
