Celebration Theatre, founded in December 1982 in a Silverlake storefront, is one of the oldest LGBTQIA theatres in the United States. Established as a community theatre for gay and lesbian individuals and their allies, it has consistently produced theatrical works that celebrate and support the queer community, emphasizing inclusion, visibility, and pride. Located in Los Angeles, the theatre is currently a guest resident at the Los Angeles LGBT Center in Hollywood for the 2022-2023 season. Over the years, Celebration Theatre has been recognized by GLAAD, NAACP, and various LA theatre awards for its excellence in theatre arts. The organization is committed to entertaining, inspiring, and empowering audiences through innovative productions. It is governed by a board of directors and executive staff, with Ann C. James and Brittney S. Wheeler leading as Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director, respectively. The theatre acknowledges its presence on the unceded lands of Indigenous peoples and is a member of the Queer Theatre Alliance, working towards equity, diversity, and inclusion. Supported by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the City of West Hollywood, and the California Arts Council, Celebration Theatre continues to serve as a vital platform for both professional and emerging LGBTQIA artists.
