The University of Oregon Garter Band will perform its annual concert at the WOW Hall on Sunday, June 9th. The Oregon Athletic Bands maintain two 12-member scholarship groups known as the Green Garter Band (GGB) and the Yellow Garter Band (YGB). Often seen performing around the stadium before football games, the GGB and YGB play everything from Louie Louie to their own arrangements. Instrumentation for the bands includes four saxophones (two altos, tenor and bari), one mellophone, three trumpets, two trombones, bass guitar and drums.  All members are selected by audition from the OMB. The Garter Band performs for all women’s volleyball games and selected women’s basketball games, as well as many other performances on and off campus. A faculty member advises the group, but student directors organize all tune selection, rehearsals and performances.

Every member of ONE WAY OUT brings this admiration for the music and the skills to do it justice. Our live shows are authentic and full of Allman Brothers energy and musicianship. ONE WAY OUT offers a full repertoire of music from the Allman Brothers Band, as well as individual hits from their notable side projects.

Aston Barrett Jr., born into a family deeply immersed in the reggae music scene, is the torchbearer of his father’s legacy—Aston “Family Man” Barrett, the renowned bassist for Bob Marley & The Wailers. Hailing from a lineage steeped in musical prowess, as the nephew of drummer Carlton “Carly” Barrett and the grandson of Joe Higgs, who mentored Bob Marley. Raised in Kingston, Jamaica, amidst the harmonious blend of Rasta and Christian beliefs within his household, music was more than entertainment—it was a way of life. Guided by his mother’s influence, he developed a spiritual and moral compass. Aston fondly recalls, “I have an ear for music. Music is in my blood. I was born for music, and I live for music.”

The Utah-via-Hawaii group was born on the shores of Oahu in 2015, as teenage buddies Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) picked up a gig serenading diners at local taco trucks in between surf sessions. The self-taught, left-handed Montoya mastered his craft under Collins’ tutelage. The building is on the west end of the downtown commercial district so it’s easy to get there via walking, biking or bussing. Saxsquatch is a 7’ tall multi-instrumentalist, producer, and electronic music artist from North Carolina.

He has accumulated over 3 million followers online through releasing music with legends such as John Oates, Billy Ray Cyrus, the band WAR, and songs with the infamous electronic music label Monstercat. In 2021, Saxsquatch created theme music for Rocket League, and the following year had music featured in Fortnite. Saxsquatch has been trending on Rolling Stone’s website and on the front page of Forbes for his music releases.

 Hailing from Valparaiso, Chile, singer-songwriter Pascuala Ilabaca is a unique and treasured voice in both the Latin American and World Music scenes.  In little over a decade, she has released six albums and performed on multiple world tours. She is known for her flamboyant and refreshing performances.

​Ilabaca’s debut album, Pascuala Canta a Violeta, was released in 2008 featuring her arrangements of legendary singer-songwriter Violeta Parra’s songs.  In 2010, Ilabaca receives the Guitarpin de oro prize at the Festival del Huaso de Olmué, and by 2012, she had completed her first two European tours, which included two nights of performance at the German TFF Rudolstadt Festival.  She also released her second album, Busco Paraiso, that same year.

There seems to be an aura in the air when the five members of The Main Squeeze enter a room. A multicultural five-piece from Los Angeles, CA, The Main Squeeze have built a cult following in the States on the road – putting rubber to pavement and playing over 1,000 shows together over the past nine years. For a group of men with completely different backgrounds, tastes, religions, and opinions, there’s already a spirit shared among them when they sit down to play together.

Houndmouth is an American alternative blues band from New Albany, Indiana led by Matt Myers (guitar, vocals). Houndmouth formed in the summer of 2011. After playing locally in Louisville and Indiana, they performed at the SXSW music festival in March 2012 to promote their homemade self-titled EP. Geoff Travis, the head of Rough Trade was in the audience and offered a contract shortly after. In 2012, the band was named “Band Of The Week” by The Guardian. Please join us at the WOW Hall on Saturday, January 18 in Celebrating the life of Frog, AKA David Henry Miller. Frog was known by many in the community as the friendly personality they saw selling the funniest joke books in the world at Saturday Market and on campus. Some knew him as the patient adult leading the kid’s joke workshop on the Community Village stage during Oregon Country Fair where many of our children had their first experience behind a microphone. At the WOW Hall Frog spent many decades working most shows as a volunteer. He was most frequently seen checking ID’s downstairs in the beer garden.

Emery is an emo-rock band that started in 2001. They have toured worldwide with 8 full length releases (9th full length coming soon), several EPs and multiple exclusive releases to their private subscription club called Emeryland. Emery continues to make new music each year with a loyal group of followers. Emeryland is a growing and sustainable community that continues to incorporate and enhance a cohesive, collaborative group that sustains their art at the center, while building relationships and value. Emery also created their very own cryptocurrency called Emerycoin ($WALLS) that is used within the community for memberships, exclusive merchandise, and more. Emery’s twenty year tenure proves their longevity and adaptability over the course of two decades.

On Saturday, Jan. 11th, Community Center for the Performing Arts presents a 50th anniversary fundraiser for the WOW Hall and performance of Defiance by the Wallflower Order and Dance Brigade, along with musical performances by Holly Near and Ferron, at the WOW Hall.

Dance Brigade is partnering with the WOW Hall for a WOW’s 50th anniversary fundraising event on Saturday, Jan. 11th, with a tribute to their shared history; including songs and storytelling by Holly Near and Ferron, and performance of a signature dance theater piece with original members from the Wallflower Order Dance Collective.

This old school metal influenced band has been hitting the scene since February of 2008. Cap’n Trips begin their 17th year together with a tribute concert to legendary Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh on Friday January 3rd at Eugenes Wow Hall. Trips will be reunited with their original guitar virtuoso Anthony Forcellini.

From the misty, pine-covered hills of the Pacific Northwest hail the Bridge City Sinners, who span the continuum from prohibition era jazz to Appalachian death folk. This traditional string band line up bends the meaning of the word genre, Playing festivals from Punk Rock Bowling, to Muddy Roots, to Oregon’s Bluegrass String Summit. They started their journey by busking on sidewalks across the country and  now this supergroup of musicians find themselves on the national tour circuit. The Sinners still hold true to the DIY mentality of putting albums out on a self made record label, Flail Records. They recently hit #70 on the Billboard charts, top current album sales, for the week of September 4th 2021 for their album “Unholy Hymns”. With talented musicianship and a punk as f***! live show, this is one band you don’t want to miss.

Prezident Brown, born Fitz Albert Cotterell, has been called, “one of the most interesting cultural dee-jays since U Roy”. Emphasizing positive messages, Prezident Brown has continued to pioneer his own direction, developing his own approach to dee-jaying that he calls, “sing chat”. Born to a Seventh Day Adventist family in Johnny’s Hill, Clarendon on the foot of the Bull Head mountains, Prezident Brown grew up in the small town of Oracabessa in the Parish of St. Mary, Jamaica.

Slightly ticked off that they hadn’t included her in the wager, she decided to hit them with her best shot, and Odie was crowned the victor when a track she wrote blew up on TikTok. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna show y’all. Tall Heights wants to share a moment with you. A moment in New England, a moment on Earth. With their 2024 release, Softly Softly, Paul Wright (cello/vocals) and Tim Harrington (guitar/vocals) reject isolation; both the universal experience of the early 2020s, and its sound recording definition where different instruments are recorded separately. Harrington explains, “The opposite of isolation in recording is bleed, where you hear the drums and guitar through the vocal mic because everything is happening in the same room. It’s risky because you can’t easily change it later. You’re stuck with whatever you get. Bleeding is just the perfect word for it. It’s scary and it sometimes hurts.”

Sixpence None the Richer began taking shape in New Braunfels, Texas in the early ‘90s, when guitarist Matt Slocum met vocalist Leigh Nash at a church retreat. The group recorded a demo before eventually signing with R.E.X. Records. Their debut LP, The Fatherless & the Widow, appeared in 1993 and their sophomore effort, 1995’s This Beautiful Mess won a Dove Award and was followed by the Tickets for a Prayer Wheel EP.

In 1997, Sixpence None the Richer released their self-titled album and two years later exploded globally when the track “Kiss Me”, from that album, was released as a single. The song has been featured in countless movies and TV shows and catapulted Sixpence None the Richer’s star power into the mainstream, earning airplay in more than ten different countries.

Lizzy & the Triggermen transport you back to the glamour of the Jazz Age, but with a sound and swagger that is thrillingly new. The band is helmed by operatically-trained Lizzy Shapiro, who NPR raved is “one part Eartha Kitt, one part Ella Fitzgerald, one part Amy Winehouse” and Broadway World hailed as “a powerhouse vocalist and songwriter.” She created the band with musical director Dan Barrett (who played with and arranged for Benny Goodman). Their 2020 debut album, “Good Songs for Bad Times,” hit #3 on the iTunes Jazz Charts alongside jazz royalty Miles Davis and Kamasi Washington. They quickly went from performing in speakeasies to selling out top venues across the country and premiere jazz festivals (Tucson Jazz Festival, San Diego Jazz Party), and breaking glass ceilings for swing music, including touring with Squeeze, co-headlining festivals with acts like Samara Joy, Nancy Sinatra, and being chosen for SXSW. Elizabeth began rapping at the age of 14, starting off doing church poetry, she received the nickname “CupcakKe’‘ and she later began to rap. First song “Gold Digger’’ went viral on internet in 2012. Songs as ‘’Money’’ (2012) ,‘’Figgas Over Niggas’’ (2013) and ‘’Yo Lost’’ (2014) gained attention. In 2015 she broke the internet with her sexually charged anthems “Vagina” and “Deepthroat’’ and in February 2016 she released her first album entitled “Cum Cake”.

Perfect Giddimani was born Greg Rose in Bamboo, St Ann, Jamaica and like many reggae artists his mother sang in church, and his grandfather also had a banjo band, so he was exposed to music from birth. His father was an electrical repairman and among the many things he repaired were jukeboxes. Some of the jukeboxes were left behind by the customers and his father rigged one special jukebox so that Greg and his siblings could play it without having to insert money. The jukebox was set up with many genres of music including, soul, country, pop, and reggae so he was introduced to a wide range of music at an early age.

DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid have spent more than two decades igniting dance floors with cutting edge music not limited by national borders or language. They host the longest-running Bhangra and Bollywood party in the world (Andaz est. 2002) and co-founded the Pacific Northwest’s first Global Bass dance party (Atlas 2003-2013.) In 2013, Anjali & The Kid initiated TROPITAAL! A Desi Latino Soundclash, which they host every month at The Goodfoot. Few DJs can be said to have changed the sound of their city but that is exactly what DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid have done since they first introduced Portland, Oregon nightclub audiences to the many varied sounds of Global Bass at a rowdy New Year’s Eve debut in 2000. They are most known for incinerating dance floors with the heavy dance floor artillery of South Asia, but the duo scour the globe for any hard-hitting music that combines local music traditions with window-rattling production.

YBN Nahmir burst onto the rap scene at 17 with his viral hit “Rubbin Off the Paint” (2017), quickly transitioning from online gamer to rap star.
