Two Corners explores the friendship between Florine, a black woman, and her childhood friend Sarah, a white woman in rural Alabama during the civil rights movement. Can their friendship survive or was their friendship a part of their imagination? This one-act, multi-media production also features original choreography by Norwood Pennewell of Garth Fagan Dance.

Finger Lakes Opera (FLO) kicks off its 2024 Summer Festival with Juneteenth, a FREE, commemorative program that illuminates the joy, resilience, and journey toward freedom, justice, and equality for all. The evening will be emceed by News 10 NBC-WHEC anchor Deanna Dewberry, and, feature the Mount Olivet Sanctuary Choir with Wings of Praise Flag Ministry and FLO singers from the cast of the world premiere production of Two Corners by composer B. E. Boykin and librettist Jarrod Lee. 

Juneteenth Commemorative Program

Finger Lakes Opera (FLO) commissioned B.E. Boykin and Jarrod Lee to create the company's first opera in 2022. Over the past two years, this one-act opera has had two weeklong workshops; one in Rochester during FLO's 2023 Summer Festival and the second in Cincinnati when the company was invited to participate in The Cincinnati Opera's Opera Fusion: New Works initiative.

This free Behind the Curtain event, sponsored by the George Walker Center for Equity and Inclusion in Music, will give audience members the opportunity to learn how this new work has come to life.

Moderator Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, Eastman School of Music's Associate Dean of Equity and Inclusion, will lead a discussion on the Two Corners creative process and the themes explored therein.
