The Ulysses quartet has been praised for their “textural versatility,” “grave beauty” and “the kind of chemistry many quartets long for, but rarely achieve” (The Strad), as well as their “avid enthusiasm … [with] chops to back up their passion” (San Diego Story), “delivered with a blend of exuberance and polished artistry” (The Buffalo News). Founded in 2105 and made up of violinists Christina Bouey and Rhiannon Banerdt, violist Anthony Bracewell and cellist Grace Ho, the group has earned top prizes in numerous international competitions including the  Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Schoenfeld International String Competition.

The Ulysses String Quartet was founded in 2015 and quickly rose to prominence with top prize wins at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and Schoenfeld International String Competition. Consisting of violinists Christina Bouey and Rhiannon Banerdt, violist Colin Brookes and cellist Grace Ho, the quartet's members hail from Canada, the United States and Taiwan. They join LSU for a three-day residency, culminating in an exciting concert program of modern string chamber works.

More than 700 letters document Leoš Janáček’s obsession with the woman who served as his muse during the final decade of his life. While largely unrequited, his passion inspired nearly all of his best-known works, including his Second String Quartet, “Intimate Letters,” written in only 21 days in 1921, the final year of his life.

Launched in the summer of 2015, the group immediately earned top prizes at such prestigious competitions as Fischoff, Schoenfeld and Osaka.  Since then, the Ulysses has performed in such diverse venues as Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall and the Taiwan National Recital Hall, the Chautauqua Institution, Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao Ciclo de Cámara y Solistas in Salamanca, the Picasso Museum in Málaga, the National Gallery of Art and San Juan Chamber Music Festival. Last season they performed in Mexico City, along with Sociedad Filarmónica de Lima, Kansas City Friends of Chamber Music, Basel Kammermusik, and Chamber Music Society of Utica. Other notable engagements have included Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society, Premiere Performances Hong Kong, National Arts Centre (Ottawa), and Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall (Istanbul).
