One of the Musikverein's highlights this season is Clara Schumann's flower album. She kept dried flowers in this little book and gave it, with a personal dedication, to her dear friend, Johannes Brahms. Darius Milhaud composed "La cheminée du roi René" for the film "Cavalcade d'amour." His version for woodwind quintet will be performed this evening. Franz Schubert's Introduction and Variations on his song "Trock'ne Blumen" (Dry Flowers) is a highly virtuosic work that he wrote for his circle of friends. In the second part of the concert, the recipient of the flower book himself will speak as a composer: Brahms composed his cheerful first serenade as a nonet for wind and strings.

This presentation explores the author's integration of instrumental, computer-assisted, and electroacoustic composition over two decades, focusing on new technologies and compositional processes. Since 2010, automatic orchestration tools have been employed to analyze sound's physical and perceptual properties. Central to this work is a multidimensional approach to timbre, utilizing multispectralism and hybrid techniques to create complex spectra and perceptual conflicts with aesthetic implications.

In the masterclass, we'll explore a variety of possibilities for creating unique concerts. We'll broaden our perspective using practical examples that understand a concert as an aesthetic and social Gesamtkunstwerk. We'll practice finding ideas and, through practical exercises and your repertoire, explore how to deal with space, the body, storytelling, and music in new performance formats. This will allow you to expand your personal interpretive skills. And you'll gain experience in developing concerts independently and collaboratively—because playing beautiful music alone is rarely enough to regularly reach an audience and attract new ones, or to convince cultural policy sponsors of the importance of your work.

Several years after the successful boy band Deine Feste Freund Erfahrung disbanded, former agent Hecke is trying to arrange a reunion tour. Paul, the first to leave the band in hopes of pursuing a solo career, has since passed away, and so the remaining members meet one evening at Hecke's estate. Piano Concertos Joint Venture

Students from the Institute for Piano Performance under the direction of Jan Satler (Young Artist in Residence at the Institute for Piano Performance) will present five short concepts featuring music by Arnold Schoenberg and contemporary literature at the Arnold Schönberg Center. The concepts have been supplemented with various pieces, including those from the classical repertoire. The contemporary literature presented includes pieces by prominent Viennese composers and faculty members at the mdw, with whom the students have worked intensively: Thomas Wally, Gerald Resch, Karlheinz Essl, Hannes Dufek, and Nava Hemyari. With these short concepts, we attempt to bridge the boundaries between New Music and the standard repertoire and demonstrate that the two musical genres are closer than one might think.
