Future Yard is pleased to announce POP3: A Climate Conference; a day of debate, performance, celebration, and dialogue as we explore how the DIY music sector is responding to the climate emergency.

POP3 will explore the power of music in the climate debate and the impact of live touring, whilst shining a focus on emerging collective action in the creative space.

Taking place on November 20th – during the COP Climate Conference – we will be hosting a series of workshops throughout the day, exploring how various venues, businesses, and musicians navigate sustainability, audience engagement, developing networks, and the climate crisis as a whole. People in attendance will range from local artists and businesses passionate about sustainability, to representatives from nationally significant arts organisations.

Counter Culture presents XGENERATIONX at Future Yard on Wednesday 19th November, featuring Mark Laff (Generation X), Steve Norman (Spandau Ballet) and Elizabeth Westwood (Westworld).

Legendary punk musician and Generation X drummer Mark Laff is set to makes an electrifying comeback in 2025 with his new project, XGENERATIONX, performing the songs of Generation X that he played such a key role in creating with Billy Idol.

Seattle’s finest funk & soul powerhouse, True Loves, are bringing their electrifying energy to Birkenhead on Sunday 28th September! Known for their infectious grooves, tight horn arrangements, and unstoppable rhythm section, True Loves transforms every venue into a full-blown block party.

Formed in 2014 by drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jimmy James, the band has grown into a global sensation, featuring percussionist Iván Galvez, trombonist Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. Still just 20-years-old, Toby Lee is already a three-time winner of Young Blues Artist of the Year at the UK Blues Awards – yet the virtuoso guitarist is only getting started. Praised as a remarkable talent by the likes of Jools and Joe Bonamassa, 2024 represented a big breakthrough year as Toby released his new album ‘House On Fire’.

Future Yard and Milap present Shez Raja and Guthrie Govan in Birkenhead on Friday 18th July.

Voted one of the ‘Hottest Bass Players in the World’ by readers of Bass Player magazine, virtuoso bass player and Parkgate’s own Shez Raja returns to our stage after a storming performance back in September. An artist renowned for his high-energy live shows, unique Indo-jazz-funk sound, and global collaborations with the likes of Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Dennis Chambers, and Wayne Krantz, Raja brings his dynamic style to the stage once again.

He is joined by electric guitar sensation Guthrie Govan, a man with numerous accolades, including being voted ‘Guitarist of the Year’ in Guitarist magazine and appearing on the cover of Guitar Player magazine. The go-to player for Hans Zimmer, Govan’s virtuosic technique and bold creativity have earned him a reputation as guitar royalty on the world stage.

Evol brings former Wicked Whispers frontman Michael Robert Murphy to Future Yard, Birkenhead on Friday 20th June to celebrate the launch of his brand new album ‘Chaos Magick’ (out the very same day!). Described by Michael as “A scouse lo-fi autobiographical psychedelic odyssey”, it will feature some of Liverpool‘s finest musicians including Echo and The Bunnymen’s Will Sergeant and The Coral’s Ian Skelly, Paul Molloy and Ian Mac.

Credited as Far Out Magazine’s Best Live Band of 2023, London-based slowcore quartet deathcrash will bring their visceral, intense, and precise live show to Future Yard on Wednesday 18th June 2025.

Despite coming to prominence with other South London sensations such as Black Country, New Road, Jerskin Fendrix, Sorry and Black Midi, deathcrash have always had a distinctly mysterious energy about them, the shy kids in the corner quietly constructing something grand.

American shoegaze-soul legends The Veldt and rising force Tremours are co-headlining Future Yard on Tuesday 10th June, bringing a night of ethereal, heady, and noisy soundscapes.

Emerging from North Carolina in the 1980s, The Veldt blends ethereal atmospheres, sultry melodies, and rhythmic grooves. Influenced by Marvin Gaye, Sun Ra, and Pharaoh Sanders, as well as their roots in gospel, Motown, and psychedelic rock, they created a unique sound that set them apart during the first wave of shoegaze bands.

WAX + GEARS, a one-day festival of emerging music, sustainable practice and climate activism, takes place in an off-grid, pedal-powered arena within our large outdoor garden space at Future Yard. Drawing together the ideas of music discovery, vinyl culture, cycling, DIY, analogue and with an eco-conscious aesthetic, Wax + Gears will be a platform based around community, collective enrichment and celebration.

Dub collective Zion Train return to Birkenhead once again, celebrating the release of their new album Dubs Of Perception (out 21.03) with an extended party out in the FY Garden on Saturday 24th May powered by Intrinsic Sound System.

9×9 Records takes over Future Yard once again to present Henry Priestman on Saturday 17th May for a special gig he’ll be playing to celebrate his 70th birthday (!!).

Henry will be joined by Les Glover and no doubt a host of other guests and reprobates…and the important thing is, IT’S SEATED!

Henry formed his first band 60 years ago, aged 9, the (original) Chuddy Nuddies. They were perhaps ahead of their time, and miming/playing cricket bats for guitars was always going to be a bit ‘niche’. Since then, there’s been Desmond’s Leg (1971-73), The Hull Art College Foundation Band (1974), Vic Vespa and the CZs (1974-75), The Edgehill Players (1975-76), Albert Dock (1976-77), The Chuddy Nuddies (vsn 2, 1977), Yachts (1977-81), It’s Immaterial (1978-85), and The Christians (1985-95, 1999-2007)…to say nothing of tours playing keyboards with The Mighty Wah (1984), and Echo & The Bunnymen (1998).

Alain Johannes + Earl Of Hell return to the UK in May 2025, performing at Future Yard on Friday 16th May.

Johannes’ last trip over the pond in 2024 was such a success that he’s back again just a year later, once again be joined by Edinburg- based fuzz rockers and adopted nephews Earl Of Hell as his backing band and tour support, they’ll also be hot off the heels of the release of their debut album, co-produced by none other than Uncle Alain.

We team up with April Moon for a huge serving of Americana-adjacent sonic goodness at Future Yard on Sunday 11th May, the ‘Canadiana’ duo joined on the day in Birkenhead by Skylarks, Leanne Brumfitt, Only Child and The John Street Revival.

April Moon’s fun, whimsical songwriting style fuses genres, weaving effortlessly from alt-country and Americana to folksy blues and rock although their latest singles and full-length album, 2022’s The Other One Was You definitely leans towards the sounds of their more rootsy upbringing. They call it ‘Canadiana’ – think Americana, but with a big helping of northern charm that oozes through their style of kooky storytelling and lyrics, creating a vivid, sunshine-filled world that covers everything from love, scandal and divorce to life on the prairies, living in an abandoned brewery, cow autopsies, and the nomad life.

A poet, performer, artist and comedian, Mik spouts lyrics, creates chaos, plays air-crook lock(!), and all-out entertains over the top of an exquisite layer of rock, soul, funk, and punk created by partner in crime Jonny Flockton on guitar. Delightful, frightening, strange and hysterically funny, Mik throws shapes and straws, and croons like a dream – sometimes.

This May, he brings his boundless energy, creativity, and passion to Future Yard for an unforgettable night!

A composer and multi-instrumentalist who mangles, mutates, and transforms traditional music, Cerys explores the creative possibilities and unique qualities of the triple harp, and is also interested in found sounds, archival materials and electronic processing. She comes from Machynlleth, Wales, where rivers and roads meet on the way to the sea.

Cerys has won over audiences from Green Man to the Eisteddfod and from BBC 6 Music Festival to Celtic Connections with her magical, progressive sound.

Future Yard’s favourite Wizard-fronted psychedelic rock experience Cothel headline in Birkenhead on Sunday 4th May, celebrating the launch of the debut album That Feeling You Get… (out 2nd May) with a packed bill featuring some of their favourite sonic wanderers.

More than simply just a band, Cothel are a psychedelic rock experience fronted by The Wizard himself, who take you on a journey through the emotional spectrum of psychedelia. Originally a made up concept, Cothel have grown to mean much more than its very long and convoluted definition. Many talented songwriters, producers, and musicians have helped interpret this so called “feeling” into an album, That Feeling You Get… does just that.

After the huge success of the first Dark Reign metal festival in June, we’re delighted to welcome back the 2025 edition on Saturday 3rd May.

Heart Of A Coward are celebrated stalwarts of the British metal scene, and they headline this year’s event alongside deathcore outfit Osiah from Sunderland. Joining them are Raised By Owls, Lokust, Draconian Reign, Dekaytah, Exhumation, Asleep At The Helm and Absolence, with more still to be announced.

They join us as part of their Choose The Bear Spring 2025 tour. A band known for their ferocious and joyous live shows, MMATS have graced stages at such notable festivals as Slam Dunk, Bearded Theory, North West Calling, Kendal Calling, Rebellion and Boomtown, and have previously toured with the likes of Less Than Jake and Ferocious Dog. The band explore themes of loss, betrayal, heartbreak, anxiety, environmental concern and political unrest – all while exuding the punk attitude and prowess that helps set them apart – and have been championed by the likes of the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show, BBC Introducing and Radio X alongside press coverage from Devolution, Fireworks, Powerplay and Vive Le Rock magazines.

A self-confessed confused, loud two-piece from Dublin, Bicurious have built a reputation for riff sing-alongs, grooves that open up mosh pits and get heads banging, and the undeniable chemistry between the two remarkable musicians, Bicurious have been making their mark in the instrumental post-rock scene throughout Europe over the past 7 years.

Bicurious juxtapose spacey and rhythmic with heavy and delirious. They build wide, engaging soundscapes that sway between math-rock riffs, post-rock progressions and noisy breakdowns, while keeping a strong focus on catchy hooks. The band’s highly anticipated second album Your Life is Over Now… is a powerful, much more lyrical body of work, released via Big Scary Monsters in 2024.

Aimed at children aged 1-8, Mosh Tots is here to introduce young people to the rockin’ world of live music in a safe and fun environment. We believe that live music should be for everyone, no matter your age. For too long live music venues have been off limits for young children and their parents. Mosh Tots flips that on its head and is an opportunity to share the joy of live music together as a family.

The ‘Electropunkdisco duo from NYC to LDN’, Baba Ali return to Birkenhead after a storming set in the pouring rain back at Future Now 2023, joining forces with Liverpool’s gothic alt-pop trio The DSM IV, back on the Left Bank for their first ever headline slot in support of their brand new EP ‘Negative Utopia‘ (out now!).

Known for their genre-blending style that mixes Brazilian traditions, Afro-Latin rhythms, psychedelic punk-rock, and electro-punk, Francisco, el Hombre’s performances are an explosive spectacle.

Taking their name from a character in Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, Francisco, el Hombre is celebrated for their dynamic fusion of Mexican and Brazilian influences. The band, featuring Mexicans Mateo and Sebastián Piracés-Ugarte and Brazilians Juliana Strassacapa, Andrei Kozyreff, and Helena Papini, delivers socially charged music, addressing issues like gender violence in their Grammy-nominated anthem, “Triste, louca ou má.”

Girls of the Internet’s manifesto is clear; to create dance music that calls back to how it was made at its inception, but with the knowledge and experience of the past 50 years of the genre. Joining the dots that have not been joined for a long time, the collective takes on people of all sexualities, gender expressions and body types. “We are very proud to bring this music back to its inclusive roots. Let’s forget the disjointed and cliquey scene we live in, and bring back what once united us.”

We are thrilled to present New Brighton’s own The Dream Machine at Future Yard on Saturday 19th April, as they headline ‘Easter on the Peninsula’ featuring some of your next favourite bands from Merseyside and beyond, with Lip Filler, Callinsick, The Marigolds and People Person joining the bill.

Drawing on the magpie-like psychedelia of the Coral and the dark drama of Echo & the Bunnymen, The Dream Machine fit the niche between indie pop and all-out psych with their particular blend of smooth vocal harmonies and tantalisingly hypnotic Americana grooves.

April 2025 will mark an electrifying chapter for progressive metal fans as two of Belgium’s most prominent heavy music acts, Hippotraktor and Cobra The Impaler, join forces for the highly anticipated Serpent And Colossus UK Tour. This dynamic co-headlining tour promises a sonic experience of crushing riffs, intricate melodies, and visceral energy that will captivate audiences across the United Kingdom.

A reggae legend comes to town. Eek-A-Mouse performs live at Future Yard on Wednesday 16th April.

Ludicrous, bizarre, and uniquely original, few DJs have made such a splash in the dancehall scene than Eek-A-Mouse since his emergence out of Kingston in the mid-70s. An artist who in any other country would have been a one-hit wonder, in Jamaica became a household name having invented a whole new vocal style, sing-jay, flooding the airwaves with his catch phrases and going on to become a globally respected toaster.

Wolfgang is back!

Ex-Kraftwerk Wolfgang Flur comes to Birkenhead for the second year running on Friday 11th April to present Musik Soldat in our live room.

Best known as the electro drummer of the German electronic band Kraftwerk between 1973 and 1986, Wolfgang Flur’s current stage performances show videos and rare images from his Kraftwerk past shot to his present projects added with selected electro tunes for dancing. MUSIK SOLDAT (music soldier) is the title of Flur’s program. Wolfgang sees himself as a music presenter with historical electric background.

Now Wave presents Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs at Future Yard on Wednesday 9th April 2025, returning to Birkenhead for the first time since headlining our Future Now festival in 2022.
