A Christmas Carol is a classic story of redemption that has been adapted by Joe Landry, an award-winning internationally produced playwright. The actors play dozens of roles as the familiar story unfolds. Three ghosts take Ebenezer Scrooge on a thrilling journey to teach him the true meaning of Christmas. The legendary Tap dance phenom Brenda Bufalino, turning 85 years young this year, celebrates her birthday with a rare local appearance on the Rosendale Theatre stage, tap dancing, singing, and telling stories. Also featured will be a sneak peek of a new documentary by her dear friend and co-founder – Tony Waag, the Director of The American Tap Dance Foundation. So join us as we celebrate with this extraordinary tap dance trailblazer accompanied by two of the area’s top jazz masters, Teri Roiger and John Menegon.

Brenda Bufalino: Tapping Into 85

Oscar-nominated writer-director Todd Field returns with his first film in 16 years, telling the tale of Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett), a powerful force in the world of classical music. Tár is widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and first-ever female music director of a major German orchestra. When Tár becomes engaged in a scandal, the same fierce determination that made her a success threatens to become her downfall. This film examines the changing nature of power, its impact and durability in our modern world.

Actors meet twice each week and work in pairs on scenes from plays and learn the technique of working with contemporary scripted materials, bringing a character to life from scratch, pursuing a character intention, and the nuanced listening and response techniques of professional actors. The program will culminate with a staged reading of scenes that the actors have worked on. We of course will also play a ton of improv games, and actors will learn how professional actors use improv in the development of a character, within the world of a play.

“Concert for George” is a musical tribute to Beatles icon George Harrison. It will have a one-night-only screening at Rosendale Theatre on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 PM.

The Rosendale Theatre is proud to present a one-woman show written and performed by Obie Award Winning Actress Kathryn Grody.

The Unexpected 3rd, a work in progress, is a radical rumination on the optimism of staying alive. Deep into her third and final act of being a person, Grody investigates an eclectic, devastating, and hilarious potpourri of shocking discoveries as she finds herself at 75, becoming… not quite old, but elder. “Old starts at 95!” she declares “I’ve just completed my late youth.” Another boomer that didn’t think the aging process would apply to them, Grody enters elderhood with equal parts empowerment and utter devastation. Marching onward through crumbling democracy, a boiling planet, and an increasingly dead roster of friends and colleagues, she is buoyed by discovering parts of herself she didn’t know were in hiding. Perhaps these parts were waiting for this period to bloom. Mother, artist, wife, grandmother, friend, and accidental influencer Kathryn Grody is astonished with her life, your life, and the stunning, hilarious, heartbreaking impermanence of it all.

The Unexpected 3rd is the third play in a trilogy that also includes A Mom’s Life and Falling Apart… Together both previously performed at The Public Theatre in New York City. All of the plays in the trilogy, including The Unexpected 3rd, have been directed by Timothy Near, a multi-award-winning director for the stage.

Audiences are invited to stay after the performances for conversation with Kathryn, the author and actress of the play, and Timothy, the director. Feedback is greatly appreciated as this is a work in progress.

What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.
