Antonio Vivaldi is best known for his iconic The Four Seasons, but his work extends far beyond this famous collection of seasonal compositions. Although a violin player by trade, Vivaldi was adept at writing for all instruments and musical genres. His style evolved over his life, with his late works adopting aspects of not only the galant—the truly hip style of the day—but also a good dose of the fantastic and the bizarre. Featuring Colburn Conservatory talent in a breathtaking display of virtuosity, this program explores the non-seasoned sides of the Venetian master.

Every year for Bach’s birthday in March, musicians around the world unite to perform Bach in subways and public spaces, all day and all night, to share their love for their art form and sow the seeds for future generations of classical music lovers.

This weekend, the Colburn Baroque Ensemble will perform works by Bach in the Colburn Café.

A celebration of Bach’s birthday: The Colburn Baroque Ensemble

The Colburn Baroque Ensemble is joined by renowned seismologist, baroque musician, and composer Dr. Lucy Jones for an innovative program centered around the climate crisis. Performed against a backdrop of climate-focused art and media, the music of Rebel, Purcell, Gabrieli, Telemann, and more is paired with narration by Dr. Jones to paint a picture of the current crisis and the actions we can take to minimize it. The concert also features Dr. Jones’s work In Nomine Terra Calens (In the Name of a Warming Earth), in which she has musically represented the rising temperature of the planet from 1880 to 2017.
