Orchestra Baobab

Orchestra Baobab is a renowned Senegalese Afro-Cuban, Son ensemble originally formed in Dakar in 1970. The band was named after the Baobab Club where they were resident performers. Their music is a fusion of Cuban rhythms, traditional African instrumentation, and pop influences, reflecting the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Dakar. The band gained immense popularity during the 1970s and early 1980s for their innovative sound and skilful blending of different musical traditions. After disbanding in the mid-1980s, they reunited in the early 2000s, to the joy of world music enthusiasts. This reunion was marked by the successful release of their album "Specialist in All Styles" in 2002, produced by Youssou N'Dour and featuring collaborations with prominent musicians like Ibrahim Ferrer of Buena Vista Social Club. Orchestra Baobab has since continued to perform and tour internationally, delighting audiences with their rich musical tapestry and cultural heritage.
