Concert Orchestra

Solent Concert Orchestra, originally known as Marchwood Orchestra, was established in 1989 by a group of amateur musicians performing at St John's Church, Marchwood. Over the years, the orchestra expanded its reach and repertoire, leading to a name change in 2018 to better reflect its broader geographical influence across Southampton, Solent, Hampshire, and the New Forest area. The orchestra, under the baton of Simon Wilkins since 2013, performs three to four concerts annually, featuring a diverse range of music from classical symphonies to light modern pieces. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at Bramshaw Village Hall. Solent Concert Orchestra has a history of charitable contributions and has performed at various venues including churches, schools, and village halls. In 2009, the orchestra initiated Marchwood Prelude, a secondary orchestra for less experienced players, which eventually became a separate entity in 2017. The organization continues to encourage musical development and enjoyment among its members and audiences alike.
