Come to the Asheville Art Museum for an engaging concert and puppet performance by Susana and Timmy Abell. This one-hour show will feature Timmy’s award-winning original songs played with an array of traditional instruments, Susana’s timeless and charming puppet fable, and an appearance by their Spanish-speaking pet sloth! Amidst all the fun and laughter, children and adults alike will be inspired to explore the many different ways that we can share our stories. An Evening with Chris Thile features a true array of genres.  You’ll hear Thile’s new work ATTENTION! A narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra, the third movement of Barber’s masterful Violin Concerto – which he will play on mandolin – and more.

MacArthur Fellow and Grammy Award-winning mandolinist, singer, songwriter Chris Thile, who the Guardian calls “that rare being: an all-round musician who can settle into any style, from bluegrass to classical,” and NPR calls a “genre-defying musical genius,” is a founding member of the critically acclaimed bands Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek.

The Asheville Symphony Chorus (ASC) presents a spring program that tells the story of royal celebrations — weddings, coronations, and anniversaries. Joined by Asheville Youth Choirs, ASC will present an evening of pieces written for kings and queens. Featuring works by composers Sir William McKie, William Mathias, Will Todd, and others, the concert’s twin crowning glories will be W. A. Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Handel’s Zadok the Priest.

The Asheville Chamber Music Series celebrates the mastery of Mozart with the New York
City-based Isidore String Quartet. Much like the famous composer himself, the ensemble considers the string quartet as its “playground to impact the world we live in and inspire others through the art of collaboration and play.” Since its inception, the Isidore String Quartet has worked tirelessly to revisit, rediscover and reinvigorate the classical repertory. In this program they will explore Mozart’s bold and innovative “Dissonance” String Quartet alongside works by Czech composers Erwin Schulhoff and Antonín Dvořák.
