Hudson Chorale

Pleasantville, NY, United States

The Hudson Chorale is a prominent choral group based in Westchester, New York, known for its dedication to performing a diverse range of choral music at an exceptionally high standard. The ensemble, which boasts around 70 voices, was formed in July 2010 through the merger of two long-standing choral groups: the Choral Arts Society, originally the Ossining Music Guild founded in 1937, and the Westchester Concert Singers, which began as the Pleasantville Cantata Singers in 1955. This union brought together the rich histories and musical excellence of both groups, marking a significant development in the region's choral landscape. Under the artistic direction of Music Director David Baranowski, the Hudson Chorale has continued to flourish, attracting men and women from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for choral singing. The group's members range from college students to retirees, with varying levels of musical training, but all united by their love for music. Their repertoire spans from early music to contemporary compositions, including well-known choral masterpieces and newly-commissioned works. The chorus's size and the disciplined musicianship of its members allow for successful performances of a broad spectrum of music, providing audiences with enriching musical experiences. The Hudson Chorale typically prepares two concert programs annually, with performances in January and June. These events often feature a matinee and are held at various venues, with details available on the organization's Events Info page. Historically, rehearsals took place on Monday evenings at All Saints Episcopal Church in Briarcliff Manor, NY. However, the chorale has adapted to virtual rehearsals via the digital platform Jamulus during the 2020 and spring 2021 seasons due to the pandemic, with plans to return to in-person rehearsals with health and safety measures in place. The mission of the Hudson Chorale is to entertain and inspire its audiences through the performance of sacred and secular choral music, while providing its singers with a deeply satisfying opportunity to learn and perform at a high level. The chorale's history includes memorable past events, such as the "Hudson Chorale Goes Classic" concert in January 2020, featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn, and the "In Paradisium" concert in January 2019, with music by Fauré and a cappella motets by various composers. The ensemble has also premiered new works, showcasing its commitment to contemporary choral literature.
