The Warren Symphony Orchestra (WSO), established by the Warren Symphony Society, Inc. in 1972, is a professional community orchestra based in Macomb County, Michigan. The orchestra held its inaugural concert during the 1973-74 season and has since become a significant cultural institution in the Detroit area, performing in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties. Recognized for its contributions to the local cultural scene, the WSO has been awarded the title of Outstanding Community Orchestra seven times by the Detroit Music Awards. Initially formed to replace a discontinued school string program, the orchestra has grown to include a wide variety of performances, including collaborations with international artists and local talent. The WSO was briefly known as the Motor City Symphony Orchestra from 2014 to 2019. Under the leadership of Gina Provenzano, who was appointed Music Director and Conductor in 2018, the orchestra continues to thrive. The WSO is committed to youth education, reaching thousands of students annually through its educational Youth Concerts. These efforts are part of the orchestra's mission to foster a new generation of classical music enthusiasts. The orchestra performs at various venues, including the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts and the Warren Consolidated Performing Arts Center. The WSO's regular concert season runs from November through April, offering a blend of classical and contemporary works to its audiences.
