Canadian piano superstar, Meagan Milatz joins us to blow the roof off of the Winspear with Robert Schumann’s incredible piano quintet. This perennial favourite is virtuosic, joyful and thrilling for performer and audience alike. The first half of this concert includes Clara Schumann’s Soirées Musicales and the riveting sixth string quartet of Béla Bartok.

Chamber music phenom, James Shields brings a truck-full of clarinets for two monumental quintets. Come experience the ecstatic and evocative Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind by Osvaldo Golijov. This spectacular piece combines fiery Klezmer and haunting melodies. Test Run by John Estacio and Mozart’s masterful clarinet quintet will light up the stage.

We’re thrilled to welcome Edmonton Symphony Colleagues, Clayton Leung and David Bordeleau for an incandescent performance of Tchaikovsky’s mighty Souvenir de Florence. Also featured on the program is music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Missy Mazzoli’s Enthusiasm Strategies.

This programme begins with one of the best loved string quartets of all time: Franz Schubert’s Death and the Maiden remains among of the most powerful and poignant works in the genre. In the second half we are joined by Canadian violin legend, Mark Fewer for a performance of Mendelssohn’s exuberant Viola Quintet in B flat.
