Bach Choir

The San Francisco Bach Choir, founded in 1936, is one of the oldest continuously performing community choirs in the western United States. It specializes in the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, using a historically informed approach with period instruments and professional musicians. Under the leadership of founding director Waldemar Jacobsen, the choir gained prominence for performing complete choral works. David P. Babbitt, who led from 1981 to 2006, expanded the repertoire to include polychoral works from the 16th and 17th centuries and established a baroque style orchestra. Corey Jamason, Artistic Director from 2007 to 2014, continued the focus on baroque music and initiated community outreach programs. Since June 2014, Dr. Magen Solomon has been the Artistic Director, bringing over 35 years of experience in choral leadership. The choir's notable events include performing for a United Nations conference in 1947, launching a website in 2001, and celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2011. The choir remains a vital part of the Bay Area's cultural scene, offering exceptional choral performances.
