The Philharmonia Orchestra is a world-class symphony orchestra that was founded in 1945. As a leading ensemble of the 21st century, it is based in London at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall and is renowned for creating thrilling performances that reach a global audience. The orchestra consists of 80 outstanding musicians from around the world, under the leadership of various conductors and composers who shape the orchestra's program and performances. Throughout its history, the Philharmonia has been dedicated to innovation and excellence. Originally founded as a recording orchestra, it has expanded its repertoire and now records music for contemporary media, including games and movies. The orchestra's digital and immersive projects utilize technology to connect with new audiences beyond the traditional concert hall setting. The Philharmonia's commitment to education and community engagement is evident through its Learning & Engagement programs, which aim to inspire, excite, empower, and engage participants from a broad range of backgrounds. For instance, in 2021, the orchestra premiered Bryce Dessner's Violin Concerto, written for Pekka Kuusisto and part of the Human/Nature series. Dessner, known for his role in the rock band The National, has also composed film scores for productions such as Netflix's "The Two Popes" and Alejandro González Iñárritu's "The Revenant," among others. The Philharmonia is set to premiere Dessner's Piano Concerto, written for pianist Alice Sara Ott, in February 2024.
