Described by The Guardian as “eclectic, eccentric and unobtrusively erudite”, pianist and composer Bruno Heinen is one of the most distinctive voices on the contemporary British jazz scene. Equally at home performing with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle at the Barbican as he is leading his own groups at international jazz festivals, Heinen’s music draws together jazz, classical and contemporary influences with striking originality.

Formed in 1973 by legendary trumpeter Donald Byrd, The Blackbyrds helped define jazz-funk, R&B and soul in the 70s. Assembled from the most talented students at Howard University, the band struck gold with their eponymous debut and classics like Do It Fluid, Walking in Rhythm, Happy Music and the iconic Rock Creek Park. Their Grammy-nominated sound has influenced generations, from 1980s Brit-funk to hip hop icons like Tupac, De La Soul, MF Doom, and Nas, who have all sampled their music extensively.

Pianist Alex Ho and alto saxophonist Donovan Haffner, both nurtured in the creative hothouse of London’s Tomorrow’s Warriors, have come together to form a new duo project, releasing their first album together, Serendipity, in spring 2026.

Life at Ronnie’s is evocatively reimagined through tales of the club’s past visitors, from pop stars, film stars and politicians to comedians and royalty – but above all, the musicians.

The connection between Cuba and Ronnie Scott's goes way back. In the 80s Arturo Sandoval and Irakere were the synonymous sound of summer at the club.
