In this performance it will be in English. Inspired by the Book of Genesis and Milton’s Paradise Lost, Haydn’s oratorio captures the emergence of light, life, and order with sublime artistry. Streatham Choral and the Brandenburg Sinfonia bring the brilliance of Haydn’s The Creation to Cadogan Hall, directed by Calum Fraser.

Impressed and inspired by Handel’s great oratorios which he heard during visits to London, Haydn said, “I was struck as if I had been put back a hundred years in my art.”

The resulting 1798 masterpiece bursts with vivid orchestral colour, soaring choruses, and movements of awe and wonder, as it celebrates the dawn of light and life in the story of Genesis.
