For the festival summit from August 13 to 17, Prizewinner in Residence Anastasia Kobekina has assembled a very special group: long-standing members of the festival family—prizewinners who are at home in the world's great concert halls and have kept these summer days free to perform together in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On Friday, the six instrumentalists will be joined by a vocal quintet, which will also present a late-night program.

The five men of the Leipzig vocal ensemble want to give it one last go at a late hour and go into the night with melodies from musicals, jazz standards and evergreens, but also with classical compositions from the musical melting pot of America.

Another highly anticipated return is the phenomenal German vocal quintet amarcord. On April 14, the group will present a program of sacred music by Josquin des Prez, one of the greatest composers of the Renaissance.

The Weimar Republic’s urgent blend of desperate defiance and vast artistic possibility come together in this Ensemble Modern performance. It opens with Hindemith’s Kammermusik No. 1, a masterstroke of postmodernism. Erich Korngold’s hit suite from Much Ado About Nothing offers an early glimpse at his wildly successful partnership with Max Reinhardt, more than a decade before they fled Europe and made Hollywood history. Schoenberg’s Accompaniment to a Cinematographic Scene is—almost certainly intentionally—not so much a film “accompaniment” as it is a full-fledged main attraction. Mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta joins in HK Gruber and Christian Muthspiel’s brand-new arrangement of The Seven Deadly Sins, a biting satire composed the same year Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s works were banned in their native Germany.
