Göta Lejon

Stockholm, Sweden

Göta Lejon opened as a science fiction cinema on 25 January 1928 with 1,307 seats, including 541 in the stands. It was then Stockholm's second largest cinema, and from 1940 Stockholm's largest. Göta Lejon was a magnificent building with American models and had many big names on its list of creators. During the 1960s, the venue was renovated so that film screenings could alternate with theater performances by, among others, Ernst Rolf and Hasse & Tage. During the late 1970s and 1980s, film screenings and performances were replaced by concerts. AC/DC, Metallica, REM and The Runaways played their first concerts in Sweden at Göta Lejon. Göta Lejon was rebuilt once again, the focus has changed to playing musicals and plays, but since 2010 it has also delivered a variety of shows, concerts and stand-up performances and will continue to deliver the kind of entertainment and feeling that only a real stage can provide.
