Lorensbergsteatern

The very first premiere at the Lorensberg Theatre took place on 27 October 1916, and was of course the most magnificent. “A sanctuary of art, a temple of poetry”, thundered Victor Sjöström in his opening speech. The first performance at the country’s most modern theatre could begin. The theatre was built with American speed, as it was called at the time, when work was done in three shifts. The entire building was actually completed in less than six months. And it all really came down to a restaurateur wanting to continue serving beer, nubbe and herring to the hungry Gothenburgers in Lorensberg Park.
