Lincoln Center

Lincoln Center Theater (LCT) is a prominent American theater organization located in New York City, known for its dedication to producing a diverse range of plays and musicals. Celebrating its 35th anniversary, LCT has established itself as a leading cultural institution, operating under the guiding principle that the arts should be accessible to a wide audience, not just a privileged few. This ethos is reflected in their motto, "Good Plays, Popular Prices," and their commitment to keeping admission prices affordable. Founded in 1985, Lincoln Center Theater was re-established under the leadership of Chairman John V. Lindsay, Director Gregory Mosher, and Executive Producer Bernard Gersten. The New York Times has recognized LCT as the pre-eminent theater in the country. Today, the organization continues to thrive under Chairman Eric M. Mindich and Producing Artistic Director André Bishop. LCT's productions are enjoyed by millions at their three primary venues: the Vivian Beaumont Theater, the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, and the Claire Tow Theater, as well as on Broadway and other stages. LCT is also known for its outreach and educational initiatives. It distributes thousands of free tickets annually to culturally under-served populations across New York City's five boroughs and offers special performances for the hearing impaired. The organization's Directors Lab fosters the development of new and emerging artists, while the Open Stages program partners with New York City public schools to promote arts education. Additionally, the Lincoln Center Theater Review serves as a literary journal that is distributed free-of-charge to schools and libraries. In June 2012, LCT expanded its facilities with a new 2-story addition on the roof of the Vivian Beaumont Theater, which includes the Claire Tow Theater, rehearsal rooms, office space, and a roof terrace. This expansion also serves as the permanent home for LCT3, an initiative devoted to producing the work of new playwrights, directors, and designers, with a focus on attracting a new generation of artists and audiences through fully staged productions and affordable tickets. Lincoln Center Theater's impact extends beyond its New York City base, reaching national and international audiences through tours, telecasts, films, publications, recordings, and its website. The organization's production history boasts over 160 New York, U.S., and world premieres, along with noteworthy revivals, all documented in the LCT production archive and celebrated in special anniversary issues of the LCT Review. LCT's commitment to inclusivity and excellence in the performing arts is further demonstrated through its various support and membership programs, which include the Patron Program, LCT Angels Program, and the innovative Membership program that allows participants to access productions at reduced ticket prices. Throughout its history, Lincoln Center Theater has not only been a beacon of theatrical artistry but also a steadfast advocate for the role of the arts in society, championing the belief that they are a vital component of a vibrant and inclusive community.
