Fairport Convention

Fairport Convention is an influential British folk rock band formed in 1967. While not strictly an artistic organization in the traditional venue or collective ensemble sense, Fairport Convention has played a seminal role in the development of British folk music, intertwining traditional British folk with rock elements. Often hailed for laying the groundwork for the folk-rock genre, the band is noted for its dynamic lineup changes over the years, with notable members including Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny. Fairport Convention's 1969 album, 'Liege & Lief,' is particularly celebrated for its impact and is widely considered one of the music field's most significant folk rock albums. The band also hosts Fairport's Cropredy Convention, an annual music festival that takes place in Oxfordshire, attracting large audiences of folk enthusiasts. The festival serves as a celebration of their music and folk rock at large.
