The festival kicks off at 2:00 pm, transforming the SPAC grounds into a dynamic space filled with student pop-up performances, fine art displays, food stands, poetry slams, games, activities, and complimentary ice cream courtesy of Stewart’s Shops. The celebration continues with a spectacular concert at 4:30 pm on SPAC’s main stage. In a celebration of instrumental odd couples, three duo teams highlight the extremes of possibility for their ensembles. Maurice Duruflé’s post-Romantic trio augments the duo format, and all join for the concluding Septet by virtuoso pianist Johann Hummel, who was a pupil of Mozart and Haydn and was admired by Beethoven.

Defying convention and boundaries, Time For Three stands at the busy intersection of Americana, modern pop, and classical music. In addition to their incredible arrangements of Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Led Zeppelin and others, the trio featuring Charles Yang (violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), will present special arrangements of holiday favorites including The Christmas Song, Edelweiss, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and a special Hanukah MashUP.

Caffè Lena has been part of Darlingside’s growth ever since 2013, when they first played the legendary Saratoga venue as part of a mid-week Emerging Artist Breakout series. The ensuing years brought annual shows at Lena’s and the band began to gain national attention, with NPR describing Darlingside’s indie rock as “exquisitely arranged, literary minded, baroque folk-pop.” Their compositions are strikingly elegant, and the unity of their voices is beyond compare, garnering praise from Rolling Stone and The New Yorker and fueling the growth of a worldwide following. With a vigor and discipline more common to graduate-level writing workshops than to indie rock, Darlingside has, over the years, experimented with all manners of idiosyncratic methods for elevating and upholding a truly democratic process of songwriting – processes that include multiple rounds of group writing and recording exercises.

The unique, harmonizing group turned internet sensation captures the essence of an old-school a cappella quartet with sounds inspired by gospel and R&B. Kings Return features tenor Vaughn Faison, bass Gabe Kunda, tenor JE McKissic, and baritone Jamall Williams. Their joyous We Four Kings program features pop, classical, and religious holiday classics, reinterpreting modern and classic pop (Michael Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, BGs), soul (Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire), R&B (Frank Ocean, Leon Bridges), gospel (Kirk Franklin), jazz and sacred music.

The GRAMMY® nominated vocal supergroup, säje, is the brainchild of vocalist/composers Sara Gazarek, Amanda Taylor, Johnaye Kendrick, and Erin Bentlage.
