Livermore Valley Opera

Livermore, CA, United States

Livermore Valley Opera (LVO) is a professional opera company located in Livermore, California, approximately 45 miles east of San Francisco. The company's history dates back to its founding in 1992 when opera enthusiasts in the Livermore community began producing operas at Livermore High School. With the opening of the Bankhead Theater in 2007, LVO marked a significant transition, staging its first production in the new venue with Puccini's "La Bohème." Since then, LVO has established itself as a world-class professional opera company, known for its fully staged and magnificently produced operas. The Bankhead Theater, where LVO performs, is renowned for its excellent lines of sight and acoustics, which have been instrumental in attracting talented singers and stage directors to the company. LVO is characterized by a unique combination of professional musicians, stage directors, principal singers, and designers working alongside dedicated volunteers. These volunteers play critical roles within the organization, including serving as board members, chorus members, stage crew, and set builders, all contributing to the company's artistic achievements. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, Livermore Valley Opera is committed to enriching the cultural life of the community through its productions and educational outreach programs. The company engages in school and community outreach initiatives to foster an appreciation for opera and to educate the public about this art form. Over the years, LVO has presented a wide range of productions, showcasing both classic and contemporary operas. Some of its past productions include "The Elixir of Love," "Madama Butterfly," "Tosca," "Faust," "Carmen," "La Bohème," "The Magic Flute," "The Merry Widow," "Rigoletto," "The Marriage of Figaro," "The Barber of Seville," and many others. Livermore Valley Opera continues to thrive through the support of its community, offering various ways for individuals and businesses to contribute. Donations can be made to fund current productions or future endeavors, and the organization also provides opportunities for youth ticket sponsorships. Donor benefits are offered through different levels of support, including the Overture Society, Artist Sponsorship, and the Legacy League. For those interested in staying informed about LVO's activities, the company encourages signing up for its newsletter. This provides updates on upcoming season events, ticket information, and special events such as the Opening Night Dinner and "2nd Saturday Casual" gatherings. In summary, Livermore Valley Opera is a cornerstone of the cultural landscape in Livermore, bringing high-quality opera performances to the community while also fostering a love for the arts through its educational outreach and volunteer opportunities.
