The Angeles Chorale is a distinguished choral group based in Los Angeles, California, known for its professional-level performances delivered by a dedicated volunteer choir. Established in 1975, originally as the Valley Master Chorale by founders Bill and Ada Beth Lee, it has evolved over the decades to become a central figure in the Los Angeles music scene. The choir was initially directed by Bill Lee and later underwent a significant merger with the Masterworks Chorale from California State University, Northridge in 1987, which led to a change in leadership and the adoption of its current name during John Alexander's tenure as conductor. With a history spanning over 45 years, the Angeles Chorale has been committed to its mission of engaging and enriching the Los Angeles community through exceptional choral music. The choir's passionate commitment to excellence has been evident in its efforts to increase access to and appreciation for choral music across the greater Los Angeles area. Under the artistic direction of Dr. John Sutton since the 2021-2022 concert season, the Angeles Chorale has continued to inspire audiences with its performances. The choir has a notable history of collaborating with renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, and the American Youth Symphony. Additionally, the Angeles Chorale has worked with the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, further showcasing its dedication to fostering musical talent and appreciation among younger generations. The Angeles Chorale has also made a significant impact beyond live performances. The choir's voices have been featured in Hollywood movie trailers for films such as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," "Tangled," "Meet the Parents: Little Fockers," and "Prince of Persia," through collaborations with Immediate Music, Megatrax, and Two Steps from Hell. These partnerships have allowed the choir to lease libraries for movie previews and television commercials, extending their reach to a broader audience. Some of the most memorable moments in the choir's recent history include performances at high-profile events and venues, such as "A John Williams Celebration" with the LA Phil at Disney Hall, Barbra Streisand’s "Back to Brooklyn" concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and sold-out shows with Julie Andrews at the L.A. Phil’s Holiday Singalong. The Angeles Chorale has also been featured in "An Evening of Chinese Splendor" at the Hollywood Bowl and "Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy" at the Microsoft Theater. In 2015, the choir released "An American Christmas," a live concert recording featuring works by Morten Lauridsen, Alfred Burt, and Randol Alan Bass. The summer of 2018 saw the Angeles Chorale in live concert performances of "Final Fantasy XIV" at the Dolby Theatre and a performance at the Microsoft Theater of the "Joe Hisaishi Symphonic Concert: Music from the Studio Ghibli Films of Hayao Miyazaki." The Angeles Chorale's success and continued growth are made possible through the generous support of its community and patrons. The organization offers various ways for individuals and businesses to support its mission, including donations, shopping for a cause, advertising opportunities, and matching gifts.
