In February, comedian Henry Cho was inducted as the 229th member of The Grand Ole Opry. This prestigious honor has not been extended to a comedian since 1973. The Gallo Center is delighted to congratulate Henry, and to welcome this clean, Christian-friendly comedian back to Modesto!

The popular comic has TV credits including appearances on NBC's The Tonight Show, CBS's The Late, Late, Show, and NBC's Young Comedians Special. He served two years as host of NBC's Friday Night Videos and had many guest roles on various network sitcoms. Henry was co-creator, co-producer and co-writer of The Henry Cho Show on the Great American Family network.

Chris Perondi (aka the Stunt Dog Guy) and wife Suhey Perondi, along with their famous stunt dogs, are out of this world! The Perondis are master dog trainers and have been entertaining audiences of all sizes since 1999. They have produced over 10,000 live shows since the creation of Stunt Dog Experience using positive training methods. You will witness some of the most incredible stunts and behaviors ever performed by dogs--up to two dozen talented shelter pups! This experience offers amazing tricks, big air stunts, comedy antics, dancing dogs, athletic feats, and is one of the most entertaining shows of its kind.

Vulgar, egotistic junkman Harry Brock has come to a swanky hotel in Washington to make crooked deals with government big-wigs. Founded in 1976, the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) serves over 100 young musicians and their families from more than 40 public and private schools in the Central Valley. Led by a deeply engaged leadership team, the youth orchestra attracts a diverse group of outstanding musicians. Members are presented with the opportunity to share their gift of music in an inspiring and challenging orchestral setting alongside their peers from all social, economic, cultural, and geographical backgrounds. The MSO will close out its Classics Series with Ludwig van Beethoven’s epic Symphony No. 9. Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, often referred to simply as Mariachi Vargas, stands as an iconic institution within the world of mariachi music, earning its reputation as the best mariachi ensemble in the world through a rich history of innovation, talent, and tradition.

Founded in 1897 in the town of Tecalitlán, Jalisco, Mexico, this remarkable ensemble has preserved and elevated the mariachi genre for over a century. Their name has become synonymous with the highest standards of musicianship, capturing the hearts of audiences globally. The group is a cultural icon of Mexico, having played an integral part in popularizing mariachi music around the world. Over the years, the group has featured numerous legendary mariachi musicians, including Silvestre Vargas, José "Pepe" Martínez, Rubén Fuentes, and many others.

So impressed was our CEO, Chad Hilligus, Veronica was invited back for her own show last season as part of the Chad’s Picks series. If you were at either performance, then you know this added show announcement is very good news indeed. And if you didn't see one of those performances, well, now you have another chance to be wowed by this extraordinary artist.

Veronica first gained major international attention in 2015 when, at a mere 21 years of age, she won second place in the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Vocals Competition. Hersh has put together a wonderfully exciting and energetic program for our April Classics concert. This program opens with Louise Farrenc’s lyrical and spirited Symphony No. 3. Then we will explore J. S. Bach’s “Little Fugue” in G minor with an arrangement by Music Director Hersh himself. We’ll close out the evening with Mendelssohn’s uplifting and energetic Violin Concerto in E minor featuring Tai Murray. This concerto remains among the world’s most prominent and highly regarded violin concertos in history.

Storm Large: musician, actor, playwright, author, awesome. She shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova, where despite having been eliminated in the week before the finale, Storm built a fan base that follows her around the world to this day. She was seen on the 2021 season of America's Got Talent.

Storm made her debut as guest vocalist with the band Pink Martini in April 2011, singing four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She continues to perform with the band, touring nationally and internationally, and she is featured on their album "Get Happy." Alongside Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey, Storm joined Michael Feinstein as special guest with the Pasadena Pops. Storm also has sung with k.d. lang, Kirill Gerstein, John Doe, Rufus Wainwright, and George Clinton.

The Alex Lucero Band, originally from Oakdale and now based in Santa Cruz, is comprised of multigenerational members who perform a unique fusion of Soul, Funk, Jazz Fusion, Rock and Roots Americana. Fans might be surprised Andy Grammer called his new album Monster. He was too. Long known as one of the most optimistic bright lights in the pop singer-songwriter sphere, Grammer found himself fighting demons and finding new corners of himself, places he hadn't wanted to venture before. “Being happy, anger is my vulnerability,“ he says. “I didn't know how to deal with getting in touch with anger. I just pretended it wasn't there.“ Grammer embarked on a long mental health journey that mirrored an exploratory five-year interim between albums which, of course, happened to coincide with a particularly tumultuous five years for all of us. At the time, Marsalis realized that the New Orleans music community was lacking the infusion of young homegrown talent outside of the great brass band tradition, and chose to form an orchestra that could present traditional, classic, and modern compositions with authenticity. Ballet Folklórico de México is returning to the United States for an extended multi-city tour featuring performances of the company's classic choreography. Founded in 1952 by dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández, Ballet Folklórico brings together the music, dance and costume of Mexican folklore from pre-Colombian civilizations through the modern era. With its permanent home at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, one of Mexico City's most historic venues, the company has developed choreography for 40 ballets, and showcased dozens of supremely talented folk dancers who have performed extensively across Mexico and the world.

April’s concert is filled with inspiring and youthful energy featuring Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals! This piece depicts various animals in their natural habitats through the different colors and timbres of the orchestra. Following that, we’ll dive deeper into the sounds of the orchestra with a piece by Modesto’s own and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, Andrew Norman. The program will end with Copland’s Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo with the young musicians of the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra playing side-by-side on Hoedown.

Charlie Chaplin's SMILE with Philippe Quint is a multimedia recital performance in which the Grammy Award-nominated classical violinist celebrates Charlie Chaplin's musical legacy and explores the actor's fascinating life journey. Combining rare vintage images and video footage from classic Chaplin films with live music by Mr. Quint and piano accompaniment, this show reveals the enduring relevance of Chaplin's comedy in today's society. Chaplin's films, crafted during the early 20th century, tackled pressing social and political issues, poverty, including the unemployment, inequality and immigration issues that continue to resonate deeply in the modern society.

Verdi’s Falstaff is often called the greatest operatic comedy ever composed and is based primarily on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. This heartwarming comedy tells of the knight Sir John Falstaff who has fallen on hard times and schemes to get his hands on some cash by romancing two wealthy wives of Windsor - Alice Ford and Meg Page. However, when these best friends find out that he has sent them both an identical love letter, they decide to teach Falstaff a lesson!

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. An eclectic group of six kids vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.
