The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) is a premier professional choir based in Los Angeles, California, renowned for its exceptional performances, technical precision, and artistic innovation. Established in 1964 by the legendary conductor Roger Wagner, the Chorale has since become a foundational resident company of The Music Center and serves as the choir-in-residence at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The ensemble is celebrated by critics, with the Los Angeles Times describing it as \"the finest-by-far major chorus in America.\"\n\nUnder the artistic leadership of Grant Gershon, who holds the title of Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director, and with Associate Artistic Director Jenny Wong, the Chorale has continued to uphold and expand its reputation for excellence. Jean Davidson serves as the President & CEO, and the ensemble’s Swan Family Artist-in-Residence is composer Reena Esmail. The Chorale's roster is composed of a diverse group of highly skilled singers, making it one of the most dynamic and vocally versatile choirs in the nation.\n\nThe Los Angeles Master Chorale is committed to reaching a broad audience and annually engages with over 175,000 people through its concert series at Walt Disney Concert Hall, international tours, and collaborations with prestigious organizations such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The Chorale's extensive discography includes a Grammy-winning performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, released by Deutsche Grammophon, and a recording of Eric Whitacre's \"The Sacred Veil\" on Signum Records in 2020. Additionally, the choir has contributed to the soundtracks of major films, including \"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker\" and \"Disney’s Jungle Cruise.\"\n\nThe Chorale has garnered international acclaim for its touring productions, notably \"Lagrime di San Pietro\" directed by Peter Sellars, which received high praise from critics worldwide. In its commitment to diversity and inclusion, the Chorale announced in 2020 a pledge to dedicate at least 50% of each future season's programming to works by composers from historically underrepresented groups. This initiative is part of a comprehensive five-year plan aimed at enhancing diversity within the organization's staff, board, and singers, as well as expanding its audience reach.\n\nEducation is a central pillar of the Los Angeles Master Chorale's mission. Its educational initiatives include the Voices Within program, which encourages students to compose and perform their own music, and the Oratorio Project, designed for high school students. The Chorale also hosts the annual High School Choir Festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall, a significant arts education event in Southern California. In 2018, the Chorale presented Big Sing California, the largest group singing event in the state's history, featuring a live concert at Disney Hall that was broadcast to multiple locations and streamed online.\n\nThe Los Angeles Master Chorale's vision is to expand and transform the artistry of the human voice, and its mission is to be an independent, innovative professional vocal ensemble that shares the full spectrum of choral music with the widest possible audience. The Chorale achieves this through performance, community education, collaboration, commissioning, and recording, ensuring that the choral art form continues to thrive and resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
