Florence, Italy
Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is a modern, recently built architectural complex that is constantly evolving, both through ongoing technological upgrades and the expansion of its spaces dedicated to hospitality and the specific activities of one of the most important cultural institutions not only in Italy but among the most recognized and prestigious internationally. Designed by architect Paolo Desideri of the ABDR studio, the large complex has a highly distinctive and modern structure, housing three halls: the Sala Grande, the opera house with just over 1,800 seats, distributed between the stalls, boxes, and gallery, with walls paneled in pear wood to ensure excellent acoustics and a dense network of thin copper chains that also helps transport the sound without distortion; an auditorium also with excellent acoustics, dedicated to maestro Zubin Mehta, with a modular capacity ranging from 500 to 1,100 seats; and finally, an evocative and surprising open-air Cavea located on the roof of the 2,000-seat theater, with optimal acoustics and from which, from above, one can enjoy an extraordinary view of the city and its monuments.
