Pop Live and Loud hits the Ian Hanger Recital Hall as Queensland Conservatorium pop students take the stage in an electrifying showcase. Featuring original compositions alongside reimagined covers, this concert brings together performers from all three years of students, celebrating creativity and collaboration for what promises to be an incredible night.

A picture is worth 1,000 words – what about a song? Can a picture inspire a song or fifteen? In 35MM: A Musical Exhibition, each photo creates a unique song, moments frozen in time; a glimmer of a life unfolding, a glimpse of something happening. A stunning new multimedia musical which explores a groundbreaking new concept in musical theatre… This intricately woven collection of stories told through song re-imagines what the modern musical can be.

Reimagined brings familiar works into unexpected instrumental settings, offering a fresh perspective on well-known repertoire. Featuring Franck’s Violin Sonata arranged for saxophone and piano, Martin’s Ballade, and Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 1, the program explores new colours, contrasts, and dialogue between instruments, bringing energy and character to these timeless masterpieces.

Piano Lunchtime Concert

Born in Cebu, Philippines, Albert Tiu has been called “an artist of uncommon abilities” by American Record Guide. His latest Centaur recording, “Grand Russian”, pairing Tchaikovsky’s Grand Sonata and Rachmaninov’s 1st Sonata, was cited in ARG: “Even with some legendary competition in this repertoire, Tiu stands tall with his interpretations and technical accomplishment.” Here for an exclusive Queensland concert, Professor Tiu will perform a concert of Classical and Romantic piano favorites.

This concert showcases Australian repertoire featuring the viola. This program is diverse with music by established and emerging composers, including a work commissioned for and premiered at the 50th International Viola Congress in Paris. Come along to explore the music of Australian compositional voices.

Our new Head of Jazz, James Sandon, curates a series of concerts of student jazz performances that will span genres, from Traditional Jazz to Big Band to Vocal to Latin ensembles, this is a series of concerts which promises something for everyone.

The Classical Voice Students return with the Annual Val Machin Opera Scenes. This year, scenes from 2 operatic favourites are performed with Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro , the much loved tale of 17th Century marital misadventures, against a background of political unrest, and Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman, the magical tale of the poet, Hoffman recounting the tales of his failed romances.

Thomas Adès’ Alchymia has been hailed as ‘simply one of the best chamber music compositions of our time’ (Guardian). Inspired by the music of Shakespearean England, but with a voice all of its own, this major work for string quartet and basset clarinet was premiered in 2021 and has become an instant classic. Musica Viva Australia is excited to present the London-based Doric String Quartet performing this ‘magical and arresting’ (The Times) work with the ‘brilliance, charisma and sensitivity’ (The Mercury) of Australian clarinettist Lloyd Van’t Hoff.

In the intricate weave of sounds that make up a baroque ensemble, the lute is central. It’s fitting, then, that French-American lutenist Thomas Dunford is at the centre of some of the most exciting early music-making of the moment. A regular collaborator with everyone from Les Arts Florissants to his own band of all-stars, the Jupiter Ensemble, he has been dubbed the ‘Eric Clapton of the lute’ by BBC Music Magazine.
