One of the 20th century’s grandest and most moving calls for peace is taken up by The Cleveland Orchestra, two of TCO’s choruses, and three preeminent vocalists, all under the baton of Daniel Harding. Born from the horrors of two world wars, Britten’s searing War Requiem intersperses the Latin Requiem text with haunting antiwar poems by British poet and soldier Wilfred Owen. A vibrant opener by Jimmy López Bellido takes listeners on a quick excursion to South America filled with festive melodies and rollicking rhythms inspired by Afro-Peruvian folk music.

Winner of 8 Academy Awards®, Amadeus tells the story of Vienna court composer, Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham) and the envy that consumes him upon discovering that the divine musical gifts he has so longed for all his life have been bestowed on a bawdy, vulgar, and impish young composer, Mozart (Tom Hulce). Salieri’s envy fuels his plot to destroy the man, all the while he is unable to tear himself away from the genius of his music.
